If Jerry's using something like them, they gotta be good to go. He's so awesome. I've had the opportunity to speak with him several times, both in person and over the phone and he's always been helpful and very gracious.

Good choice on the caliber for deer and hog (and human and everything else!). I'm putting together a thread on my pretty much do-all, go-to rifle, the Ruger Scout. I love that thing.

I've been feeling lacking not having a 308 in my hunting rifle lineup. Currently I've got 223, 7mmRM and 45/70govt.

I've been eyeing that ruger since its release! I will own one some day. I'm building an 20" barreled AR10 from aero precision parts. I'm trying to get the last few semiautos I've wanted before November-January just in case.

    Love the GSR!

I was torn between the GSR, Savage 11s and the MVP - ended up with the MVP for a bargain. Still love the GSR, though...and the Savage...and my MVP...

I haven't shot the Savage or the MVP, but I would imagine they are all pretty much the same. When I got mine, the Savage and the MVP weren't out yet. Only the Ruger and the Steyr and although I lust after that Steyr, it's a little pricey.

If you are interested, James Yeager has like a 10 part youtube series he did recently on his Savage Scout and the Scout-specific class he took out at Gunsite. It covers the entire process from when he was picking out optics, deciding what to go with, all through the class and some interviews with some Gunsite people regarding the concept design of the Scout. It's worth looking at, even if you don't like James.

I'll have to check those out.

Richard Mann also has quite a few articles and write-up about the resurgence of the "Scout"platform that I found pretty interesting and informative when I was researching them.

image.jpeg Not quite a gun pic, but my son earned some pennies collecting spent casings, then sorting and counting them.

H&R handigrip 45/70govt. It's now sporting a vortex strikefire red/green dot sight in a low ring mount for better cheek weld. I felt the rds fit my uses better on this rifle. With the 3-9x50mm VXII it was grouping clover leafs at 100yds with hornady leverevolutions 325gr. It's a dream to carry and I can't wait to finally get a deer with this one!
