    I got my very first handgun back home today (had been at my brother's for a few years). Manufactured in 11/86 and purchased in 6/87.

    ……Gen1 !!!! Out of interest does it have a metal plate with the SN on the frame ? What is the SN letter prefix. My Gen1 was “BN8**”.

    It does. I'll snap a pic when I can later.

    The serial number is BC9xx. The date code on the barrel is VTH which would be 11/86 for manufacture.

    Interesting. That is one of the earliest I have seen with the plate on the frame. My BN prefix didn’t have that (SN on the slide and barrel was sufficient here at the time).

    I’m guessing it was only done for the US exports at that point (given the addition of “US” there).
