Two new babies born this evening. Looks like we will be back in with goat milk. Happy to have milk again.

I know this is probably not an issue after a month, but is it possible that the hens were laying their eggs elsewhere? Free range hens have been known to lay eggs in out of the way places.

We had 9 freeze to death last night as they did not return to the coop. Others with frostbite. Too early to know if they need to be culled. I'm clearly new to this as it didn't dawn on me to move them in early, I assumed they'd find their way. ****ty ****ty day.

Trying to photograph these little meth heads is impossible in the barn. If in focus this would have been a dandy. Still can see the cute expression.

Damn, that's crazy. We had a hen and a duck left out ALL winter a few years ago in NH. They slept under the porch. Other than the duck going missing one night, they were fine with the cold. We assume the duck ran off to play with other ducks at a local pond. There was no blood or feathers. Absolutely no sign of something coming in and taking her. We still have the hen.

Ended up culling another 10 yesterday so that's 19 plus the remaining 8+/- in rehab...

That said, the TM Hunt M18 cuts off heads like a champ.

How's raising goats for meat? I'm interested in raising animals for meat, and goats never hit my radar. I've eaten them before, but really only hear of people raising them for milk.

Easy to deal with and easy to butcher. We went the Boer goat route for our meat goats. Some of them can dress out pretty heavy.
