Dug thru the change jar and treated myself to these two EXOTAC fire tools today EXOTAC FireROD & NanoSPARK FireROD: 1/4" x 2" ferro rod (threaded & replaceable) Tinder storage in handle for (1) one quickLIGHT tinder or PJCB. O ring sealed, key chain or lanyard loop. Handle is 1/2" and partially knurled. Comes with spare O ring , lanyard, and instructions. Pretty basic. Its a ferro rod with hollow handle to store tinder. Keep it on a necklace or pack zipper or keychain. (i highly recommend you put a drop of BLUE LOCTITE on the ferro rod threads. ) same concept as the Esee Firesteel, yet superlight and way smaller. Stash anywhere NanoSPARK. A basic flint lighter, produces a huge spark pattern. can be rolled on hard surface (one handed!) or flicked like a lighter. Flints are replaceable. There is waterproof storage in the handle for (1) one (included + 4 spares) quickLIGHT tinder. Lanyard/necklace/pack zipper or key chain carry. Bad ass bit of EDC kit. I should mention that the O ring seal is very tight, high quality nitrile. I paid a little more up here in Canada, but these are pretty cheap and you can scatter them all over you packs, clothing pockets etc and you don;t notice they are there until you need them. Great morale booster to find a bunch of fire-starting gear and tinder you forgot you had.....when you need it most.... .................................................................
no Exotac lighters available up here for at least 3 months, according to the Distributor. SO i'm going to-have to order from Exotac directly...... I think that NanoSPARK should be in every survival kit, and at least one or two on a pack or jacket zipper.
Rob makes all of his stuff right there in GA on his CNC machines. Awesome gear and he's a class act guy. I'll be having some beers with him next week while in Atlanta.
Yeah, it’s cool to have these guys local here in ATL. Looking forward to seeing some reviews and all on the lighter, but I’ll probably snag one no matter what.
You need to get up to Trackrock next weekend for the Hammer-in. Some awesome makers will be there and it's a hell of a lot of fun.
