Ran across a fantastic quick movie from the 40's about building a birch bark canoe. While I love the native technology of the canoe construction, the methods of working the birch sap down are absolutely fantastic. Boil it in a bag, heat it up and drop it in cold water- awesome stuff, I can't wait to try some of the techniques.
I can watch these all day long. Ran across another one. The amount of skill, knowledge and work that goes inthis is astounding. This one won't embed how I normally embed a youtube video, but it is worth your hour.... https://www.nfb.ca/film/cesars_bark_canoe/
Here's a fun pictorial of the buildup of a kayak made from driftwood pieces and scrap. http://www.capefalconkayak.com/driftwoodkayak2.html
Not sure this deserves its own thread, but I enjoy this kind of stuff- hurricane Irma exposed an old/ancient dugout canoe. https://www.yahoo.com/gma/canoe-une...years-old-195804517--abc-news-topstories.html
