    Hello everybody!

Her's the thing, I would like to purchase my first knife and I obviously thought about an esee one.
I have made a lot of researches and I finally decided to purchase an esee 4 or esee 4 hm.
Here's my question : which one is the best??
Which sheath also is the best?

I guess you probably used both and even if I like the look of the regular 4's handle best, it seems like lots of people are very happy about the hm's, so please give me your veteran's advices, tips, and maybe a different model if you think there might be one better?

I also heard that carbon is better than 440C..?

    Best regards

It will boil down to personal preference. I enjoy both of them but the the regular esse 4 feels like home in my hand.

I have both but grab the 4hm most. Fits my hand and is more comfortable. Plus they now have kydex for the hm series. Can’t go wrong.
It also depends on your application though. What will be your main use for it. YMMV

It depends on what U use it for...I have a couple 4's & 1 HM.
For longer sessions ,the HM wins.
But there are also aftermarket scales that make the 4 more comfortable...palm swell & better fit than factory scales.

@H0llyw00D JacK I am thinking there might be a small language translation occurring here so ill try to avoid any slang in what i am trying to say.
#1 Since i believe you are located in France i would see what you might have the easiest access to. I am not sure of the knife laws there but that is something you might have to consider.
#2 I cannot help on the intended use for the original 4 vs the 4HM but i do own both. I would say that i do prefer the original 4 as i am able to get a more solid grip then the 4HM.
#3 I am not a big fan of the leather sheath and have always felt safer with a kydex or the plastic sheath.

Thank you all for your answers, I very appreciate it, great community here. I do live in France indeed, and even if I think I might say I am pretty good at english, some words about knives are a bit technical and I may don't use them well, I apologize for that, but no google translation here :)

I think about buying a goof knife because I want to go hiking with a mate and why not later, do some survival stuffs, that's why I am looking for the best one.

About the knives laws in here, the only think I can't do with them actually is walk around in town with one. Especially now..

I think I will go with the regular 4 one with kydex sheath.
But just to be sure I pick the right stuffs, could somebody send me some links for both?

And thank you very much for the welcome!

And by the way I didn't have the opportuniy to say it since I don't know anyone who lives in the United States, but a few days ago I know it was the memorial day, on may 28th. So a little late but very sincere thought about american soldiers from a patriotic fellow.

Thank you very much! I don't want to bother you mate but there is so many different esee 4 models, I even saw some with a black handle, is it the same model?
Would it be possible for you to send me the exact link for the best model of esee 4 and the sheath from the same website, please?

First link is gunsmoke colored (charcoal of sorts) esee 4 with sheath

Second link is just for knife only.

Third link is black knife plus sheath.

Well I guess it will be between the first and the third one then.
Which one would you pick for a hard use, considering the color of the blade? (maybe one last longer than the other, I don't know.. one is cheaper than the other..)
Thank you for being so patient !

Ive not noticed a powder coat color that is stronger than the other. The handle material is different between the two. One is g10 and the other micarta. Id go g10 gunsmoke as i like the g10 scales.

Thank you very much, I've found my knife thanks to you. To all of you guys.

When I'll have it, I'll probably have questions like how to take care of the blade, etc.. But for now, you really helped. Some questions weren't very smart, but you answered me anyway aha.

It is settled then, it will be a ESEE-4 g10 gunsmoke.

Have a great day, or evening, it is 11pm in here!
    Take care!

Did you hear (probably) about the PR4, and what do you think about it compared to ESEE-4?

Both are very good blades and different. The PR4 is thinner and spear point. For me they are interchangeable but i always lean on my ESEE 4 most. There is a lot of personal preference in choosing a blade.

Best advice is buy them all. Use them all. Sell the ones you dont like.

Agreed. Just like anything the way to have an educated opinion is to explore and use.
