After using the knives for a week i do have to say they are all different steels and as to what steel they are i dont know nor do i care. They all performed amazing. The ESEE 4 is the best design in the entire line. The best. Buy one if you dont have one. Seriously. Buy it now ill wait.

Heres my purely subjective findings. Each knife has its own personality. 2 was a cut clean and never complain. 1 was a cut ever so toothier but also a stand alone knife. 3 was a clean cutter but would take a stropping graciously. Of all of them id rate them most likable first as 3,2,1. With all that said this is purely subjective and slightly ridiculous. They all did what i asked very well and id be happy with a purchase of any of them. Id equate this testing choosing based off color as it was so close. Im a simple user of knives and im not going to notice pedigree.

@Strigidae great photos! Is there anything in particular that you liked the most about #3? Was it the ease of stropping that edged it out in front of the others?

How to test all 3 blades plus a control being a standard Coated standard ESEE4?

To try to duplicate the same material for each blade i decided to use kiln dried 2x4 and 2x6.

    What i wanted to test?

As I find my #1 use for a knife in the outdoors is to build a campfire I decided to test them for Batoning, Light chopping and thick Curl making.

    Batoning
B #1 No Noticeable positives or negatives vs Control.
B #2 Had the most difficulty’s batoning. I tried a additional board and same result.
    B #3 Batoned AMAZING!

    Chopping
B #1 Did not chop as well at the Control (coated ESEE 4)
B #2 Chopped the worst of all 4 blades. I tried chopping with multiple spots on the blade and it didn't want to grab at the wood.
B #3 Did not chop as well at the Control (coated ESEE 4) But hard to rate against B#1

    Curling:
#1 Made nice long curls but not very thick curls.
#2 Cut smooth and deep into the wood but was hard to twist to make any curls.
#3 Made the thinnest and Finest curls

Bloopers :) Made this knife testing far more entertaining! Be warmed it is REALLY loud!

    @Andy the Aussie Thanks!
I finally got the short video to load from Y0u Tube and you can see why she needed a little help on a couple of the boards. While she might have not had the strongest strike with the “hammer” board she was able to bust through most of the boards( she needed a little help with the knotted pieces)
Good times were had today :)

are you seeing any obvious edge damage on #2, or is it just duller than 1 & 3?
