Carried just the CR2.5 yesterday for the first time. Didn't have a use for a knife (although I did try hehe) but I never felt lacking. It took some getting used to, reaching into my pocket and there not being a knife hung there though...

I loved my cr2.5. Great little knife. I used it cleaning some rabbits and my friend fell in love with it. Needless to say he got a “new to him” knife that day. I enjoy opening up peoples eyes to good knife brands. So currently I’m cr2.5 knifeless and just waiting for the new 3.0 to be released. Good times.

C1B2231D-BE04-45C1-AB42-095FF3578AF7.jpeg Thought this was kind of neat. My dad had an old armorhide-handled Gerber from the 60s, that he gave to me years ago. I was reading up on it a bit and I came across this other variant of that series - the Gerber Pixie. It struck me how similar it is to the Esee CR 2.5 (and with its blade length even more so to the fabled Esee CR 3.0). It’s made of M2 high speed tool steel, with a chrome plated finish for corrosion resistance. It’s got a 3” blade and is 7” overall. The similar blade I have holds an incredible edge but it a chore to sharpen. Apparently the Pixie was marketed as a small game/bird & trout knife, and began production in the late 1960s.
I’ve heard the origin story of the CR 2.5, and I think it’s interesting that two similar designs were created independently, and in both cases users hail their utility.
Anyway, thought you guys might enjoy.

I always liked that little Gerber. They had a set of steak knives that was almost identical. But I think they both had much thinner blade stock than the CR2.5.

Now you've got me hankerin' for the S35 CR3.o again. I've been suppressing those desires. Telling myself that it was just a fever dream and that it could never happen in real life.

These M2 Gerbers were really ahead of their time.
