Am thinking of finally retiring my Igloo cooler and upgrading to a roto-molded model. Have looked at Yeti, Pelican, RTIC, and even noted today that Walmart is carrying an Ozark Trail version. Seems like my list starts at the high end of price and moves downward. I'd buy the Ozark Trail and give it a try if I thought Walmart would continue to support it. Just afraid that, down the road, I might not be able to get that style of replacement T-latch if needed. On a separate note, I like that Pelican is made in the USA. Talk coolers to me.
pretty happy with my RTIC - especially since it cost less than the similarly sized OT and member's mark versions. otterbox is also in the game now -- their coolers have some nice features, but are priced about halfway between RTIC and Yeti.
Done. Test and reviews were convincing. Free shipping (though there was a surcharge due to size), no tax, and I qualified for $20 off. Like the tan color too. Made in the USA and a decent year-long warranty. Also, I got a 40-quart for less $$ than the 30-quart Pelican I was eyeballing. Looking forward to buying less ice.
I waited for an Amazon sale on RTIC and couldn't be happier. Got a great deal and shipped to my door free.
pelican........LIFETIME WARRANTY...NO QUESTIONS ASKED. You get likkered up and chain your cooler to the mud truck and go fer a ride, and crash into a mutant wallaby, wrecking your cooler......you get a new one. nuff said. screw Yeti.
hell you pay the shipping, ill send you my Pelican 45 for a test. Use it. Abuse it. send it back full of Guyon goodness.....except that purple nurple hat....you can keep that
We have had 3 Yeti's, and still have 2 of them...first a 55, then a 45, and finally a Roadie. The 55 was great, but wouldn't fit well in the trunk of the sedan we had at the time. Then I won the 45 in a drawing, so sold off the 55. The Roadie is great for shorter trips, day trips and overnighters where we want something cool back at the car (assuming the cooler is out of view..biggest downside to Yeti is the known value). We have been very happy with both. It's nice to see that they aren't the only game in town when it comes to good coolers these days, though...I'm sure any of those listed can do the job much better than the coolers of the past.
Re: Cabela's Polar Cap... Was only expecting a one-year warranty based on that Field and Stream test, but I note the following designation on the listing. Wonder if there's fine print somewhere that differentiates warranty from "Guaranteed for Life."
Only thing I'd worry about is the "pressure-release valve for easier lid opening." Seems like the sort of bell and whistle that can wear out. However, if I'm reading this Cabela's lifetime guarantee correctly, the cooler is covered.
The only thing made by Yeti really worth the money is their 5-gallon buckets. I've got 10 of them and a couple in the seafoam green color.
The main thing I'm excited about is that I'll finally have a place to put my "FREE FLOYD COLLINS" sticker.
I got a Yeti Tundra some years back and it's great. I guess the good news is that there are now a bunch of work-alike coolers that let you get similar performance for less money.
That RTIC looks pretty interesting, and I found a decent review on it here. https://bestcooler.reviews/rtic-cooler-review-vs-yeti/ Also in that review they say RTIC may or may not be around too long as they are being sued by Yeti?
