Just thought I'd share few pics with you guys from my most recent trip. Charlevoix is located in the northwest portion of Michigan's lower peninsula, along Lake Michigan.

  2. Absolutely beautiful! We're getting out next weekend, I don't care if it's 95 degrees and the bugs carry us away! Lol!

Thanks! It's definitely a beautiful place. I saw the northern lights for the first time while I was up there, which was really cool!

Michigan is full of beautiful places! I like how it's kind of under the radar... Notice the lack of other people around? I love it!

That's lake Michigan. The second largest of the great lakes.

No salt, no sharks, no worries!

Heck, yeah. Michigan has some very beautiful places. Lighthouses, waterfalls, really big hills we call mountains, the Great Lakes, beaches, lots of trees and water.

And one of at least 10 Petoskey stones that I found. This is after about 3 hours of sanding with 220 grit. I went all the way up to 1200 on it and it's smooth as silk.

There's even a program on the Detroit PBS station called "Under The Radar Michigan" :)
Bravo, the "UTR Michigan" web site has a lot of interesting info about Michigan

I always enjoyed the west side of the state even though I grew up on the east side... Just don't like dealing with all the traffic around Charlevoix and Petoskey in the summer. We vacation a little further south in Silver Lake

Beautiful pictures. We're debating on if we want to go back to Florida next year for vacation or take a trip up to the U.P. Been up to the U.P. once a few years back and loved it.

Missed this until now. (Thanks for the memo.) Pesky stones, indeed.

"When dry, the stone resembles ordinary limestone but when wet or polished using lapidary techniques, the distinctive mottled pattern of the six-sided coral fossils emerges."

Hexagons pop up so often in nature. Beehive cells and convection cells are but two examples.

I wintered in Florida last year. Went for some R&R to avoid winter in my adopted home state of six brutal years. There's a novel there. (The last one turned out to be one of the mildest on record.) Visited a college housemate for the first time in 40 years. Hated it. Mostly hated Florida -- mid 90's and humid with bugs in December, plus the culture -- but also hated his wife.

If I were you, I'd go N for vacation. And for the next few decades in general.

I'll post a wet/dry pic of one of the others I have. They're much easier to spot when they're in the water.
