Made a cake with peaches and mandarin oranges in my dutch oven the other night at camp. It was a hit. I only got one piece before it was gone. Next time I'll have to make two.

I'm interested in this. What is the recipe--just cake batter and you mix in peaches and oranges? I bet that would be awesome with vanilla ice cream.

It's just yellow cake mix prepared according to the directions on the box. Then I pour in a whole can of sliced peaches with the syrup and a small can of drained mandarin oranges. It's great while it's hot with ice cream but when I'm camping I just bring a can of whipped cream. Ive made it with chocolate cake and cherries too.

I'm sure this has been posted here before, but here is another simple peach cobbler that is yummy and fairly easy to bake:

-1 large can of peaches drained (I cut them into smaller pieces in the can)
-1/4c butter (cut into small pieces)
-1 box cake mix (white or yellow)
    -1 can 7-up

Add to parchment paper lined 12" Dutch oven in order above and bake for about 45m till done. Check it frequently, if using charcoal, turn the lid and oven every few minutes to avoid hotspots and burning it.

This recipe is modified from the Idaho State University Dutch Oven Cookbook, p.39

I hit the cast iron jack pot recently. My wife's Grandmother moved in to an assisted living facility, and I was able to get this pile of iron before the estate sale! Time to get cleaning and and seasoning.

Go to lowes and buy 100% lye drain cleaner. Make sure it's 100% lye. A lot of drain cleaners have other chemicals in it. Those are for making meth.

Do you use straight lye or do you dilute it any with water?
