I've been using monofilament line since forever. Thinking of trying braided line on one of my medium spinning setups. Anyone using it? Looking at KastKing SuperPower Braided Fishing Line. Any words of wisdom from the crowd here? ... thanks

I use Spyder-wire braided line for hand, jug or bank lines, some close to 15 years old and still unbreakable by hand pressure alone. I would love to hear your experiences with it on reels, something I have never gotten to work as the line knots up too easily.

Some good ones are Sufix, Maxima, Powerpro, seaguar smackdown, p-line and vicious.

I've used all of them and Vicious no-fade braid is the best and I have it rigged up on 5 combos, nothing really touches it.

When you buy a braid make sure its a 8 carrier braid and stick with high end known names or you will probably end
    up hating braid.

One other thing is its a lot stronger then it says, plus its a lot thinner then mono, I run 20lb on most my set-ups 10lb on my spinning set-ups and 65lb on my swimbait rod.

the nice thing about braid, is its thinner and stronger. So you can run 20lb braid on a spinning reel, yet its only 2lb test mono diameter....super thin....fish spook less and you can spool more line on the reel.

I run it on an ultralight set up and to echo others there are advantages and disadvantages. First off I wanted something that would almost disappear but be strong enough for the occasional accidental trophy catch. Second, at the time I was fishing a stream with a lot of sharp rocks and strong currents and it held up sinker snags better. It does knot up, but not so bad that it out weighs the pros. You can also load a reel with a ton of it with the same poundage as mono but with way more line.

Braid is great stuff. As with mono buy quality line or you can will end up with knots and/or tangles. The price has gone down over the years so you don't need to spend a huge amount of cash to get a decent braid now. Fighting fish feels sooooo much better on braid too.

I use a flourocarbon leader with braid, to connect the braid to the leader I use a FG knot but I always use
a polymer knot to lure with braid or any flourocarbon.

Yes! 18 to 20 in shock leader is a must or you'll saw through your hand when landing a monster. I'll use a barrel swivel when using live bait. using plastics I'll tie an Albright knot

Also it depends on the location if I use a swivel if there's a lot of structure to get caught on or a fish wraps around it's easier for me to reach in the backpack and grab a pre made leader and re tie when I lose gear

What about Fireline / Spiderwire / Dyneema? I've never used that either...

I use Spiderwire, if you drop to 20-30 lb test it's not much larger that sewing thread. I use it for that too. Tensile strength is off the chain, if you have no intent of letting one go because of brush or sticks...:)
