I'm looking for someone with great machinist lathe skills to make me about 5 prototypes on a metal lathe: I need 5 hardened steel discs, 3/4" diameter, 1/4" thick, with a 1/4" hole drilled in the center. The outer edge face circumference needs to be deeply crosshatched like a zippo wheel. ball park cost to make these?
Its been a long time but in the day Cant help you with this but i can tell you that it is a pretty easy task. The question i would ask you is it ok to knurl the full length of the outside. This could save some good $$$. All someone would have to do is get a piece of 3/4 diameter steel rod face it of flat and drill you hole. They would then knurl probably 2 inches worth and then use a cutting tool to cut of the 1/4 disks. pretty simple. SHOULD be under 1 hour of work easily. That is if it is ok to knurl the whole thing.. If not then you will need someone with some skill because knurling 1/8 of a inch of a 1/4 disk is a little more difficult. Not undo able just more labor intensive...
Hey Bushy, I might be able to help you out. I have the skills and equipment to do what you want. The basic dimensions are perfect and the knurling is simple, BUT what kinda Rockwell/hardness are you looking for? PM me with some steel specs, hardened steel is a bitch to work with so it might be easier to harden after they are made. Stainless?
ROOK52 just sent me these pics of the final product. Thank You ROOK52 for your generous offer of time and steel stock.
