I finally remembered to take some photos this time. Found some free time so I decided to head out to my local WMA and enjoy what it has to offer. It was a nice overcast day although a bit wet from previous rains. I began my hike by a nice pond. Unbeknownst to me they had begun timbering a large section of woods. There were some nice hardwoods here at one time. Gathering tinder material along the way. Here is a view of a trail I decided to take. Stream crossing Found some old fallen pine trees and decided to harvest some fatwood. Some don't know the goldmine the remaining broken branches can be. End result some nice fatwood!
Hiked a ways and made it to the Appomattox river where I decided to set up and make some brew. Set up my fire pit next to this convenient tree which acted as my seat. Found a dead standing cedar which provided lots of dry wood. The 4HM is no slouch and went through this nice knot and made good feather sticks. Got the fire started now to put on some water. Made some instant spiced cider. It was tasty. Overall it was a successful day and enjoyed the outing. Hope to have many more before summer.
