Hey everyone, the may challenge inspired me to get out more and actually use my cameras so I figure I would start a thread of my adventures. "June 6 Fish Creek Prov Park" Decided to take the boy for a hike/nature walk Lots of variation in the trails. South side of the valley has lots of tall dark forrest with tons of moss And a couples hundred meters away you end up beside the creek with trails like this Found some evidence of beavers but no active dam around So we found a spot to sit and have a snack Or play with ants... Esee 3 made quick work of the apple We went on our way to find a spot to throw rocks and came across this... Seems like a lot of work for the middle of the woods It runs approx 300 meters down to the creek. All of the rocks are set in concrete the entire way Once we found a spot to skip rocks we came across a frog And spent most of the time looking at schools of minnows After a good 45mins playing in the water we headed home and decided to help a little caterpillar as it crossed a very busy path And of course the gear..
Fish Creek Prov Park June 13 Took the boy out with the intention of teaching him how to use a knife today... But the mosquitos were unbearable so we ended up playing in the creek. Didn't get much time for pictures as we were slowly being drained of blood.. But i still love trails like this, they make me feel like I'm in a different world As much as I hate mosquitos I'd rather them on me than this There was a nice breeze on the creek and the water was perfect Downstream Upstream The boy found a dead bug so we floated him down the river... No fire though so the viking burial was out haha And Levi doing what he does best, he comes by it honestly. If you have ever seen the movie "Big Fish" you will get a sense of our relationship with water Always curious I practiced getting some b roll and knife shots.... Some more creek... And of course.... The gear! Esee 3 always makes this trip Along with the khard 30 and nalgene And the sak on the lanyard Thanks for taking a look!
June 19 Fish Creek Prov Park Headed out to do some pictures for my friends coffee company and have lunch with my little buddy unfortunately I pulled my card too early and formatted it before realizing I did not import all the pictures (fail) Got the coffee going right away (my wife was away with my two youngest and coffee was much needed!) MSR pocket made quick work of boiling the water I took the plastic off of the lid lifter and replaced it with a split ring, now I can use a stick or a knife to take the lid off Next step was getting the aeropress going. I love this thing as it let's me make great coffee pretty much anywhere And the Goodtrade Co glamor shot haha as well as the Stanley kit Wouldn't be right without a knife haha Decided to test out my matchcap and nanostriker to see how waterproof they really are. Then it was time for lunch And the view.. And after lunch it was time to cool down Can't forget the knives! Thanks for taking a look!
send me the info on your friends coffee co! I would love to plaster a decal on my trekking cart! got a few coffee co's supplying me with coffee for the trek honoring my Father in late 2018/early 2019
Horseshoe Canyon Near Drumheller AB July 4th I will be posting the rest of the camping trip when I get around to it but here are some shots from Horseshoe Canyon near Drumheller AB. It is a very cool area that drops right out of the middle of the prairies. Suddenly you are in a semi arid canyon that feels like you should be able to see dinosaurs hanging out. It's interesting to see the diversity of plant life as it has everything from juniper, Saskatoon's and pine trees to cactus and desert brush All the sandstone is pretty cool to walk around on too And as usual the munchkins had to find every bug and rock in the area haha We also had a close call with a t-rex but I'm happy to report nobody was harmed... Also found a bunch or rusty relics, farmers used to use the canyon to dump trash before it became protected More pics later this week. It was a really awesome trip
July 4th Drumheller Hoodoos We decided to take a nice big detour on the way home from camping. To Drumheller with haste! Away from the wet and stormy country we sped, over the hills of the vast praries we went. But among the the endless fields of grass and crops, a secret valley! Descending we were transported to a time and place unrecognizable to our modern eyes. The first place we came across was an old coal mine, I neglected to take pictures of the impressive structure .... So here is a bridge and the tracks haha Off to the next tourist destination where the people were as plentiful as the overpriced ice cream vendors! The Hoodoos stand like sentinels among the Badlands... Or so the 90s tourism advertisments tell me It was very fun slipping and sliding on the dusty sandstone, and the kids certainly enjoyed exploring And here's a couple phone shots to give an idea of what the place looks like And of course the gear...
You could definitely spend a good couple hours there, the sandstone is pretty dusty so it makes for a bit of a challenge going up and down
July 17 Bluerock Creek Alberta Headed out to the mountains with a friend today with the goal of exploring up the canyon as far as we could. It was super hot today and the water was freezing, made for a great day exploring! Going up the canyon is not for the faint of heart of those who like being dry haha There was a pretty sketchy water fall we had to climb up and I lost a good portion of skin on the front of my legs. Totally worth it though haha There is a huge log jam half way up that you have to pass beside. Feels like a cool lagoon once you get to the other side We got a couple hours up the creek and came to a set of waterfalls that we could have gotten up, but did not feel coming back down was very safe. So we decided to head back and try another day. Had my Esee 3 on my hip the entire time as well
