Life just gets hectic. To crazy to even find time to stop and think. I live in small town America where life is slow, but my work is 24 hour on call. Today, I just went away before I came apart. Not much for scenery, this flatland, but the sunsets are fantastic. Trying out a new fire and go kit I have put together. My Junglas across the chest rig. Hangs just underneath my arm and across the belt, at my side. Made a fire for @Strigidae March give away thread. Argggh...took three strikes with ferro rod. Stole one of my wife’s mandarin orange tea packets. I think she keeps a count on these... Gathered some bark along the way in and made some cordage while the tea was brewing. I remember this from 10th grade biology class. Reconstruct the puzzle. Found a couple of broken arrowhead tips, and one crude one almost whole. Took a few knives along, go figure. And my favorite shot of the day... Thanks for stopping by. Get out before life gets you down.
Awesome stuff! Beautiful pouch! Awesome tin! I’m jealous for sure! I need to put some of my ESEE stickers on my water bottles!
Thanks @Datilite trade you for some of your scenery! Thank @DYSPHORIC JOY that is the goal. Glad it is working. Thanks @BlueDogScout I snagged that pouch right out from a grabbing hand at a gun show. Almost missed it. I just need more stickers.
I think that we missed the point of your "guided meditation" journey with all the cool pics. It is a very positive reflection on you that your psychological limitations were recognized and the woods brought you back to center. Many cannot find or even grasp the approach.
There is something about a simple fire build that recalibrates the soul. It might just be that magical moment when the spine of a blade throws sparks off of the ferro rod. Seeing the spark ignite the tinder bundle tells me, "yep, you can still do it." I don't think it was the mandarin orange tea! Had to go close to home, but that triangle of 'wetland' that the gov. excludes from 'tillable ground' is a Godsend. I told her about the tea, and since I confessed, she let me sleep in the house last night. And, the tea wasn't even that good.
Sometimes a little time in the field is all that's needed to recharge and shed some of life's daily stress. I'm going to follow your lead and put my boots to the ground today.
This is some of the honest and pro flic prose I have read in a long time. John Muir said; “Into the woods I go to lose my mind and find my soul” I love the woods. I went on a small hike today around the property with my dog, gf and grandson life was good.
Great quote. Thanks for sharing. Thanks bro. You are the nice knife guru!! Awesome. Glad to hear. Pics? Peace?? Fantastic! Glad to hear. Pics? Peace?? Have at it, sir. That was my favorite of the day. Thanks. That izula has some good stories; I wish the leather pouch could talk. Wonder where it has been?
Yes, and thanks to James Gibson’s instruction, making cordage is a repetitious, yet soothing adventure.
