My favorite is a Browning A-bolt 22lr, I’ve had it since ‘94. Very accurate and the action is as smooth as it’s centerfire counterparts. Been out of production since the mid 1990’s, but I occasionally see them pop up in the used market in good condition. I’ve even had luck sourcing a spare 5rnd and rarer 15rnd May for it. It’s become my dedicated squirrel rifle and I have a 10/22 all weather on a Butler Creek folding stock for plinking and woods bumming.

....... that is what was known here from the 50s onward as a Model 1 or Model 2 (some differences mostly magazine) and is probably (till the 90s) he most popular higher quality .22 BA sold here. I also had for a time a 1952 Model 1. Out of interest the Norinco JW15 was a copy of the Model 1.

The Browning A-bolt is an excellent deer hunting rifle. Assuming the 22lr model is build to the same standards this might also be a good gun to check out...

The triggers feel identical between my 22lr and my 7mmRM A-bolt II I cant recommend it enough.

I've shot a lot of .22 rifles. Unless you're hung up on a specific action or manufacturer (or high-end smallbore comp.), CZ bolts are the ones to beat in a modest-budget shootout, hands down.

That said, the Ruger 77/22 is a sweetheart.
There are lots of interesting vintage domestic rifles - and if you have some sort of relationship with those, that's great. But the CZ is going to be off the shelf outstanding.

    I have a Marlin model 60 and a Ruger 10/22 Takedown.

They are both great little guns and do the job of dispatching pests and collecting squirrels. The Takedown is as accurate as a normal 10/22 and kind of neat. I doubt you'd go wrong with any of the guns you've mentioned.

10/22 is the gold standard. Many other great choices, but if if you don’t have a 10/22, now is the time to get one. Infinite aftermarket parts and options.

Just do the 10/22 and get the x22 backpacker stock. That’s the setup I want to get for mine.

Sootch does a nice video on this, and two other take down .22's. Thanks for the heads up on the X22 Backpacker stock.

Ruger 10/22. I have the standard one. I have no complaints. You can leave as is or get parts and mods until the cows come home. I put a peep-site on mine.

As someone else said they made a bolt action too.

    The take down looks good.
    Maybe as stainless?

    You can’t go wrong.

Look into a ruger 22/45 lite as well for a very packable option.

I do like my 22/45 lite, but I thought he was asking about rifles. They also make a 10/22 take down lite. I think it's a little pricey though. They also make a charger take down. A charger with a pistol brace would make a nice compact package, until the atf changes their minds on braces.

There's also the Browning buckmark carbines, but I am not a fan of them. They are cool until they blow hot trash in your face due to the opening on the left side.

Speaking of pistols I am really liking the Taurus Tx22 I bought recently. Except that I can't shoot it as well as my 22/45. I haven't had the opportunity yet to figure out if it's me or the pistol.

I’ve also thought about that option of a 10/22 charger and brace, would make for a fun small backpack rig

Just watched sootch’s video again haven’t watched it for a wile. I’m liking the green stock. I have a stock black and the stainless model right now. Wish I hade black. But I also love the black carbon fiber barrel. I have the 22/45 light and the hunter love them both but just not as reliable as the rifle as far as jams.

I have a 22/45 suppressed. Pretty cool little gun, I am going to rebarrel my CZ for .22 LR so I can use the can on that also.

With this, I really don't need a rifle. I was knocking off clay pigeons at around 60 to 70 yards, where a couple people with AR's were having a hard time. I rested it of course, but still.

My 10-22 is a Sporter with the factory drop in (by me) target trigger. Unfortunately, no images till I get off my lazy derriere and take some. :(

I’ve got the round barrel Govt model version of that MKII and I can attest to that accuracy. I routinely grab it over my 10/22.

Yup, not your run of the mill MKII either. But they are all pretty accurate.
