She's already started nipping at the kids and Marty has pretty quickly put a stop to that. I'm hoping he'll be able to naturally keep her in line rather than us having to intervene and punish her. I'd prefer Marty be the Alpha since he's already such a well behaved dog, hopefully he'll impose that character onto her.
My daughter is making her girly. I already had to fight with her about the color of the collar. She wanted pink, I demanded something more neutral and went with lime green lol.
Hopefully she'll mimic everything Marty does. My ACD was raised around a Border Collie since I got her and it has worked out great. Hide your flip flops and don't be surprised when she chews through toys or antler bones at a record rate. These are so true.
haha hopefully it all goes well. She's so calm and cute right now, but I know what's waiting for me in just a few weeks once she gets rid of that sleepy puppy phase. When we got Marty as a puppy, I couldn't keep him contained ANYWHERE. I'd try to keep him in the bathroom while we were gone, and he'd climb over the baby gate. So I'd stack two baby gates and he'd climb over that too. I'd shut the door and he'd chew through it. Put him outside with a 4' high woven wire fence around the front yard, he'd climb over that and once he got to around 4 months old he didn't have to climb anymore. He'd just jump clear over it without even touching it. I swear that dog has springs in his hind legs. He looks like a deer when he jumps and I've seen him clear some pretty impressive gaps without any hesitation. Border Collies are strange dogs for sure.
I've had German shepherd,Doberman punchers, and pit bulls all my life, now I have a heeler best dog I've ever had, loyal ,smart, easy to train,it did take about 6 months with a red rider BB gun popping him in the ass to stop hearding us in the yard everyday and nipping at our calf leg,but he stoped,as far as protection I dare any one to grab my 8 year old daughter he will light your ass up in a heart beat over her, great dog,but they shed so bad you could knit a sweater every month
First week update. She comes to me when I call her. She completely ignores my wife. She loves the kids but doesn't really listen to them either. If my wife tries to pick her up, she runs away. If I lean over to pick her up, she sits down at my feet. When I do pick her up, she licks my face. If my wife picks her up, she bites her nose. So far so good...
Heelers will pick out one person in the family and stick to them more than the others in the family,my wife feeds ,whashes and takes to the vet our heeler (jaco),but I'm the one he will listen to,he's six now ,if my wife try's to hug or sit bye me he gets mad and will squeeze between us,doesn't listen to my daughter either, but will watch her play all day and if she scream s he right there ready to get something or someone ,I can't even wrestle with my daughter anymore or I'll get bit, with that all being said he's not a mean dog just real protective of my daughter
Her ears are starting to stand up. I hope she doesn't lose her eye color, they're super cool and almost a green color. Marty's eyes were kind of blue when he was a puppy and now they're **** brown lol.
