Damn - I was really hoping this was about forming a sovereign country, or seceding from the US to form our own haven. United Republic of Cascadia or something trendy like that
Not even then, the only good station in Stillwater is 99.5 out of tulsa. Anyways, this thread is right up my ally, being that I was born and bred in the home of red dirt. Miranda Lambert and Kacey Musgraves, as mentioned Chris Stapleton who has been writing hits for a longtime and just now putting out his own stuff.
I know nothing about new country. When i was a kid country music artirts wore western shirts with pearl buttons, had huge belt buckles, bad ass beards, looked sweaty and dirty and drank whiskey... lol I see country " stars " today not artists. I wonder how many write their own songs? Serious question, not sarcasm. Probably the same with any style of music now a days, i suppose.
Chris Ledoux references make me chuckle. A few months back I was in Kaycee, WY (which is about an hour south of me) and I noticed that everything was Chris Ledoux this and Chris Ledoux that. Chris Ledoux Road, Chris Ledoux park, the Chris Ledoux memorial rest area..... you get the idea. I stopped at a little convenience store to get some gas and coffee and being the only person in there I felt confident enough to ask the clerk who the heck chris ledoux is. She looked at me like I had two heads and said "You don't know who Chris Ledoux is?" After admitting that I did not she explained that he was a country music singer and rodeo champ and he had a ranch there in Kaycee. Me being the super genius I am, I nod and say "cool, well, tell him I said 'hey' the next time he comes in". I get back out to the car and tell my wife all about the conversation and how this famous rodeo guy/country singer lives there and off I go. A few days later I decide to find out what exactly I don't know about this Chris Ledoux guy and lo' and behold I find out the poor bastard died like 12 years ago and I told some random woman to tell him I said hi. I'm pretty sure I've been labeled as mentally deficient in Kaycee, WY so I'm not going to stop there anymore.
Garth and Chris were the guys who ushered country into a new age. They took it from a couple guys with singing on a stage to a full blown show.they represented some of the best country has to offer, but unknowingly brought forward the eventual downfall of the genre. Their time on the charts marked the transition from heartfelt songs about life, to poppy hits whis only purpose was to sell records.
When is new? I didn't bother to read the thread:0:0:0 My grandfather turned me on to And I grew up with Garth Brooks and This awesome dude But the people who liked Whalen and Willie said Garth and Dwight were crap pop.
Man, there were a couple good red dirt stations there when I lived there. But since then all those guys moved to Texas.
The OSU station used to play good music, but now it's all pop crap Whereabouts in Oklahoma are you at?
Man this one is hard. I grew up on the old stuff. CHRIS, garth, reba, merle, George Jones, George straight, hank willaims and Tompson, clint black, Kenny Chesney got me through the early 2000s and then luke bryan get me when I want a little more rock....but I just can't listen to it anymore. **** man I'm only 27! Im not old enough to be angry haha
If you guys are looking for failed ex-rock musicians that found new life in the country music world, check out Royal Bliss. They used to play good music until they realized they couldn't make any money in the rock music world and that country music lyrics just need to have a lot of sap in them in order for them to be successful, a la, Aaron Lewis. A winning combination for everyone...
