It’s is with GREAT SADNESS the we announce the passing of ESEE Knives Co Founder Mike Perrin. Our thoughts go out to his family. This is a devastating loss and his absence will always be felt among the ESEE family.... We'd ask that you guys give us a little time to process all this....rather than reaching out personally, lets use this forum as a way to celebrate Mike. If you have photos and stories of Mike...please feel free to drop them into this thread.
Mike was one of the most straightforward, honest people you could ever meet. Extremely intelligent and a master cabinet maker, woodworker, and artist. He made me laugh when he’d let his mouth overload his ass. The folks in the Amazon loved him since he was always doing something intentionally to make them laugh at him. One of the funniest stories is when he and I were first going down to Peru and we were still smoking. Ran out of cigarettes way up an Amazon tributary so we stopped at this little thatched hut village and he decided he’d go into the village alone to try and find cigarettes. He knew zero Spanish at this time. After about 30 minutes I see him running over a hill towards the boat with what looked like the whole village chasing him. He was yelling “fire up the boat!” He jumped back in the boat and the villagers were pelting the boat with sticks and anything they had to throw. Out of breath he started laughing and told us he got into the village and there was a bunch of old men sitting around drinking some type of liquor. Since he didn’t know Spanish he just pointed to his empty pack of cigarettes thinking they would know what he was asking for and they’d direct him to where he could purchase some cigarettes. They thought he was offering them cigarettes. When they found he had none they got pissed. Mike’s Indiana Jones moment. I still laugh every time I think about it. He will be missed.
This photo of Mike and "the waggin finger" always cracked me up... That waggin finger meant something was about to come out of his mouth but you had NO IDEA what it would be... The waggin finger was often followed by the words..... "you know what'd be cool is if....."
Had a few folks ask what happened or more details. That information is not ours to provide. In Short....he will be missed and the details do not matter.
