This is why in my opinion the Junglas needs a more robust tip. I understand why it’s so thin but who’s really using the Junglas for fine detailed work. If ESEE ever makes a 6 or Junglas II a 1/4” thick I’ll buy 2!

It broke rather quickly. 1095 is very low in toughness. I love the design just wish they used a steel that the designs deserve like 5160, A8mod or even 1075. Wear resistance is not important as these knives are mostly used on non abrasives and blunting is due to micro damage not wear. Toughness is important on non abrasives. A Mid carbon steel will boost performance.

I see no value in a test like this... none.

What are we really testing here? Not knife tasks, but how well a knife can be hammer? I could flip this test and use a hammer to do an appendectomy on someone and the results would mirror one another in absurdity. Of course the tip broke, it was used like a pry bar. I don't feel that the Junglas needs a thicker tip because I want it to cut, I just don't use it as a pry bar.... which make up about 70-80% of our warranties BTW. As for breaking it on a brick, there is a reason we tell people it's not a good idea to throw a hardened steel blade. Ever drop a drill bit on a concrete floor?

Tests like this seem to be more about click bait than anything. I would think a knife review OUGHT TO be used for knife tasks, no matter how hard but within the design parameters of a knife. This would be far more beneficial to our community than simply using a knife well outside it's parameters just to break it. I simply do not understand what tests like this accomplish... my .02cents

Well said Shane. I definitely don’t use my knives as a pry bar. Well once when I locked myself out of my house and had to use my dpx hest to open my door . I think people watch these type of videos to see how much a blade can take. I guess whether it’s useful or not is objective and how someone perceives it. I can see both sides. Personally I would love a Junglas II at a 1/4” thick with a more robust tip because I only use them for beating on but I can see why the Junglas big and small are the thickness they are and why they are designed that way. I can see the benefits either way and would own both!

I would like to see the Junglas with a tip as thick as the 6's or a little bit more. Just to save it from bending if my aim isn't perfect. Only the first 1 cm or so, it's plenty robust after that.

I never have used a Junglas with a gas mask on. Might have to try that.

Poor old boy nearly stroked out destroying the five. I was rooting for the five to break so he could stop hitting the pole. Poor feller worked for it.

You would be surprised how much more entertaining things are while wearing a gas mask!

WTH did that little blue car do to him ? Stole his dummy ?

And a gas mask…..takes all kinds I guess, I have spent more than my fair share of time exerting myself in one, not sure why you would for this. If he was smart he would gut the filter so he can at least breathe and not sound so much like a dirty phone call :D

My thoughts are if you are going to “test” a knife… START with general knife tasks…. And work your way up to absurdity as you go. That is far more compelling and useful content in my opinion.

The only test I see here is testing our warranty and there is nothing new there… we will cover it like we always do.

As I stated earlier this is like testing a hammer by trying to slice bread and make a sandwich with it. I get requests for free product all the time….. the destruction stuff is played out to me and Just my opinion

I definitely do not approve of abusing ESEE’s warranty. In my opinion if you deliberately destroy it then you should have to buy a new one.
