What blade is that? And out of curiosity have you been slicing onions with it? I asked the second question because I only seem to get that bluish iridescence patina effect when I cut onions with carbon steel.

I just used mustard. two applications of it about two hours each time. I was really surprised that it turned out the way it did

    Is it made from 1095?

I've had some similar effects from mustard when I've sanded the metal to a very high polish before applying the mustard. I like the knife and how it came out a lot!

Wow I didn't know D2 would take a patina, gives me some ideas for the CFK in D2 @Dagwood gave me. Contemplating going full convex with it. Currently my esee 5 is the only blade I've convexed and I really love it for fire prep and carving in general.

Yeah, you can't beat a convexed edge.
I was also reading that boiling apple cigar vinegar will give it a nice black finish. I thought about do that, but I didn't want to stink the house up. I might try adding a patina to the BHK pitbull tonight as well. :)

I've boiled and just soaked 1095 in both apple cider and white vinegar. Soaking and room temp takes a little longer than boiling for the darker finish, but smells way less offensive especially if you cover the dish with plastic wrap while it soaks.
