Sort of too early to tell. The grips seem grippier than the ones on my 4 3D. I like that. The sheath is like every other ESEE Plastic Sheath. More than acceptable. I have gotten pretty fond of the HM Handles. So this is a bit different for me. It feels great, it looks great, and it's already done a little work. I work at a large hunt club. Right now, I'm in the throes of hunting season. There are a lot of folks on site, and much to be tended to. I do wonder though? Is there a place, need, or desire, for a 5 Lite?? Just buzzing .75" to 1" off a 6? Without the added stoutness of the 5. Or does the JG-5 Fill that slot already?? The ESEE line has reacquired my attention since I moved out west last fall. Even more so here in Michigan. For a while they just rode in our emergency bags, and vehicles. Because I knew I could trust them if need be. I have boxes full of knives, draws full of knives, and most recently knives hanging on dowels in the living room. From Moras to the other Randalls, and everything in between. My quest for the perfect knife has been arduous and expensive. I begin to wonder if I had them the first time around with ESEE and just didn't realize it. There is an ESEE on my hip here everyday. Today it was the 3HM, usually it's the standard 3. I love how that one tucks in nice and tight, totally unobtrusive. Once the flock leaves, I may carry this new 6 and see how that works out. I may even have to revisit the 5. I have had two and let them both go. Now I question that move? LV,
I think a 5 lite would be a great blade. The options in the ESEE line already would be the Laserstrike or the JG5. I think the laserstrike would be a thicker option and the JG5 the thinner. .188 versus .125. Where the 5 falls flat for me is the weight. I can almost carry a longer blade for the same weight. Other than that the 5 is a fun knife to own and use.
Thank you! I guess I will put the 3D TKC micarta in early December if everything goes smooth with the order and delivery
Is it me, or the black coating ages best and seems to be more durable? I wish I had chosen a black 6, but the canvas micarta tempted me so much back then.
Possibly. I know when I'm stripping and sanding a knife, the orange and OD green coatings are the hardest to remove. Black is second to those.
Oh yes, actually much better looking in person. And the texture is very nice and grippy. The knife fits so much better in my paw now.
The 6 is such a great camp knife. Big enough to get stuff done and still light imo. And a good slicer too boot.
A very good slicer on its own and truly a great one when compared to other knives in this size (at least the ones I've used).
