So I have a Work Sharp precision adjust knife sharpener and decided to put the RB3 on it and noticed it has a 15 degree scandi on it. Everything for the most part is spot on except from the belly to the tip seems a little of. I was wondering if anybody has tried this and or should I just go ahead and give it tried(sharpening)
Visibly mine is the same way. Less acute of an angle around the tip. I assumed it was for tip strength. If it were me id try and keep it the same way esee made it if possible. If you experiment let us know how it goes!!!
Most probably this is how the grinding machine did it, I notice that most knives come with a steeper angle towards the tip. You can fix it in a couple of sharpening sessions.
Both could be right. I did decide to go through it. Man it’s alot off work but in the end it would be easier for me to sharpen. I did notice the belly and too are about 17.5 so it’s not 15 all the way.
On a scandi it is indeed a lot of work, due to the width of the bevel. But once done, sharpening and touching up will be a breeze.
So I ended up putting on a stone. Not sure if I like it I thought I'd get some shine like a Helle but didn't realize it was got to take a lot of work to get there.
It is a lot of work. Part of the reason i dont lend any knives to anyone. Even my friends get the “im not sure i trust you” look. Hows the cutting performance?
Man it is sharp. I'd show you my hand where I shaved a little hair but that weird haha. Question I read somewhere that you added a bevel to yours?
If the bevel is not polished on the stones, the stroping compound won't be able to bring much of a shine IMO. At least when there are no power tools involved.
