Got home after lunch. Took the knife fresh out of the box and cut some choyote vines I needed to clean up. Nice and sharp. IW17 did a great sharpening job before sending it out.

Some comparisons with a Bock 101 and Esee4. This blade fits right in my happy range size wise.

What everyone was waiting for! Got the blade got the coconut let’s go!

started in with slices to get into the nut. Blade cut great.

Starting to see the nut. You can see how fibrous the husk really is. I kept seein black on the husk as I cut. Figured out the abrasiveness of the coconut pulled off all the patina from the blade during use.

    Bout halfway there!

I’d say heat treat and temper are spot on. After the husking the blade was still shaving sharp. I’ve been in possession of this knife for less than a day and I’m impressed.

I missed this picture. Here’s the nut with all the meat and water. Used the tip of the blade to drill through the nut to make a straw hole. If you’re wondering yes I drank the coconut water. It was sweet. Probably should have throw it in the fridge first but got excited. The blade tip had no problem with lateral twists.

Almost a week now and here are some thoughts. Blade and handle are solid. No gaps no wiggles just nice and tight. The blade shape is classically perfect for a drop point.

I do agree with the comment about tapering the handles by the blade. I found the handle comfortable during use. My son felt the back end of the handle could use a little more height for finger retention. His little finger would slip off the end a little. He’s got longer leaner fingers than my marshmallow digits.

the heat treat still impresses me. I haven’t had to sharpen since the coconut episode and I’ve been using it around the garden pretty much daily.

last is a personal preference. I prefer kydex for the sheath due to the humidity here. Just last week I soaked a different leather sheath in copper based fungicide because of white mildew in it. But the good part was I saw you do Kydex on your FB page. Nice!

It’s been awhile since I made an update. I’ve been busy with everything going on and I’m almost finished getting my shop set up. I just need to wire/set up electric and add a couple shelves. It’ll probably be awhile before I get any knives made but we’ll see.

This weekend I’m going to try splitting a 410 grain bullet out of an 1886 Winchester 45-70…… should I use the 1/8” thick pass around chimera or the 3/16” chimera ? I don’t think it’s ever been done….everything I’ve seen has just been with handguns. I’m not going to lie, 410grains at 1850fps vs a knife sounds destructive

Oh this is a very nice blade! I love the looks of it, looks to be very comfortable in hand. Something Swampratish in it, but designed for cutting.

Are you going to try split the bullet like in the SOG commercial, or going for the flat of the blade?

Going to split a bullet, it’s a little over 3,000 ftlbs of energy at the muzzle.

Well….. I did it, apparently that’s why nobody has done it before. The 45-70 won, I don’t think I hit it square on. I’ll try to post the video.
