Got a question for those with more 1911 knowledge than I. My son’s 9mm 1911 got a bent extractor and I’m not able to punch out the roll pin to replace it. I’m using the smallest punch I have a 1/16”. I’ve done some searching and don’t see any smaller punches out there and don’t want to mess up the frame banging on it like a caveman. Confession time, first time working on a pistol. Never really used them till a few years ago since I’m primarily a hunter and pistol hunting here is very limited. So I’m probably overly nervous about this, but want to be sure. Thanks in advance for any guidance.
A quick search didn't find the tools required but I did find that 80 and 70 series use a different extractor as well as 9mm & .45. it also looks like the extractor will probably need to be tuned.
@ASH thank you for the reply. Yes the 9mm has an extension that I think is a weak point. It extends off the end of the .45 size quite a bit. Maybe I’ll get the grinder out and size down the 1/16 punch and make it fit.
I have run into a problem with a punch being oversized before. I don't remember what I was working on but the blue Dasco usa made punch was too large. I bought a stanley set that worked.
That could be why it’s so hard to get out. I’ll go check the hardware store. My Bosch set is the one that’s to big.
Thanks, good idea I’ll check them out. For some reason Midway shopping is best to here. Always get my stuff one day early. But Brownells is worth a shot. I got side tracked and need to get in this again.
