Eventually I'll have a fat bike but for now the all around versatility of the Ogre is awesome, no problem spinning 20 miles on the pavement and then jumping on the trails or loading it up to cruise FS roads for a long weekend. 20190711_150953.jpg

I'll get some more tomorrow, got full rear rack and panniers for when I want a human powered pickup truck. Getting more soft good cargo packs for rougher riding. Front water bottle cages are dual salsa anything cages, awesome for big bottles, clothing items or small dry bags.

Did about 25 miles of state timber land roads and FS roads today looking for fishing spots, never even got the rod out but still a good ride and found some good camping spots. Also the first long ride I have done with flat pedals (vs SPD clipless) in 10 years, went back after getting more into the bike packing and wanting to be able to wear low cut hikers for hike a bike sections and times I hide the bike in the bushes and go on foot to check something out.

They do, surly adds "barnacles" (basically standard water bottle cage threaded mounting points) all over their touring bike frames, the ogre has a total of 18 on the front fork lol. I believe salsa makes an adaptator clamp if your bike doesn't have them already.

Haha yeah, definitely overkill but it sure is handy when mounting stuff, I'm planning on getting one of their 24 pack racks and their porter house bag one of these days.

Anyone runs a XC hardtail with a wider handlebar and a shorter stem?

I put a 740 mm 2.5" rise RaceFace Chester handlebar on my bike and tomorrow I am waiting for a 50 mm 8 degrees rise Chester stem to replace the current one which is 70 mm/ 6 degrees rise. It should give more agility to the bike and allow me to be in more straight position when riding light. Who knows, we will see :D

It feels good ! My back appreciates the more straight position a lot. I also adjusted the saddle angle and the pressure of the fork and I have a new bike :D The change from the different handlebar, stem and pedals is that big.

XC hardtail with 100 mm fork, 740 mm riser bars and a 50 mm stem feels very, very stable on rough tracks.

Of course it is not a full sus, but I think that it is a very good allrounder and most important - tuned to my liking, so my back won't hurt after longer rides.

Went for the first time today and I think I’m hooked! That was fun as all heck. Did about 4 hours today 10 runs got completed soaked from the thunderstorm they ended up having to shut the lift because of lightning.

Spring is coming earlier this year, so the bike is out, dirty and happy.

I will have the fork serviced and put new tyres soon and I'm looking forward to many bike adventures this year. Of course I will add new grips in green, for some spring mood :D
