I'm looking to replace my backpack soon, I had the DDT Venom 48 hour pack and loved it. However I won't be able to afford (even though they're a great price) something like that right now. So I'm looking for a cheap alternative in the $30-40 range. I know it's only 20 less than the DDT but money is super tight and it's only for temporary use. I've been looking at these on Amazon and they look ok but wondering if anyone has actually used one, or similar, and how well it held up . I'm also looking for one with lockable zipper pulls. It'll be used for camping/day camping mostly .
LA Police Gear 3-day Assault Pack $42.99 currently, but you may be able to find coupon codes for a discount on the Internet (or perhaps even from a member here) https://lapolicegear.com/diplomat-3-day-backpack1.html They also have smaller versions available. I've owned two of these. The current version is a little more robust than the previous one. The shoulder straps feel a little thicker. They make a chest pack that clips right into the shoulder straps now as an add-on. I backpacked for 5 days out this pack in New Mexico many years ago, and don't really have any complaints. Put a heavy load in it, and you will feel it -- just like every other pack without a frame. There's a ton of MOLLE for attaching gear. Main body of the pack will support a bladder. The upper pocket on the back has a zippered admin sort of pouch. You can fit a couple of single serving dehydrated backpacker meals in the bottom pocket with a little room left over. ESEE-5 goes on the right side, USGI canteen with stove & cup on the left side, with a 1L Nalgene above it.
Man they used to have the originals for cheap. It seems like they had them for under $20 at one time. I would try to wait for a sale.
good idea, I'm in no rush anyway. well crap. Learn something new everyday, I didn't know that could be done, thank you.
Yeah, it's an old hack for all these travelers that think their bag is locked up. Locking a zipper is joke. Probably just attracts more people to get inside to find out what you're trying to lock.
Also I'd assume most thieves would just take the entire pack rather than wasting time rummaging through it. Check out Walmart hunting sections. Normally I'd never recommend Walmart for gear but I've used several of their backpacks for hunting and all have held up rather well, and fall directly into your budget.
I appreciate the info fellas. I'll see what walmart has to offer and I do like the old and beat up option also.
This is a pretty solid bit of advice. If it looks like it's not worth anything, most people will assume it doesn't contain anything worth stealing.
I have bought very lightly used quality packs for as little as $15 off Craig’s list .... I bought 3 kelty frame packs the most recent version of the 34, 48 and 65 for under $100 all were bought for Boy Scouts and used maybe 3 times I would go that route you can get a kelty redwing dirt cheap in great condition for like $20-$30
For example https://newjersey.craigslist.org/spo/d/hopatcong-kelty-yukon-external-frame/7175148926.html And https://m.facebook.com/marketplace/...nel\":503,\"value\":0,\"upsell_type\":null}"}
I don't known if it's because I'm signed up for LAPG.com emails, but whenever I check something out and don't buy it, I always get an email reminder with a 10% off code for that item.
I have a camelbak urban rover in all black literally only used on one day hike. Rest of its life been sitting as a bugout bag in the closet. Give it a google and check out the capacity and specs and let me know if you think it will be big enough and meet your needs !
Yeah it looks perfect for what I need. It's not too big or small, has enough compartments and I like that it has the side pouch big enough for a Nalgene bottle. How much are you wanting for it?
A gift bro.. are you able to cover the shipping ? If not i still got you though dont worry! Just shoot me a pm
