Well I have a .45 colt Redhawk on the way so now I need a .45 colt lever gun lol (Its amazing how one gun purchase can turn into two so easily). I have heard the newest production Marlins are greatly improved over just a few years ago but the rossi 1892s are a hundred bucks cheaper (new) and the the 16in carbine looks super handy. For the money I like the little rossi 1892 stainless, this will be gun that gets abused, likely live under the back seat of my truck, strapped to a pack in the brush, bring it canoeing, etc. Any experience with these? I know I have seen a few pics around here.
I like the design of the 92 but the Marlin has the ability to mount a peep sight on top of the receiver. I preferred sighting system for the mature gentleman.
Yeah that is definitely an advantage, I have seen where guys take the safety off the rossi and mount a peep sight in the hole but that is in the bolt. I wonder about the sighting consistency, but then again it's a 16 inch lever gun shooting .45lc, at most my shots will be 100 yards on deer and hogs.
I traded this away a couple of years ago and I can't seem to find the other pics but the really cool thing about it is it dated to 1903 as I recall and was marked #036 LAPD on the other side of stock. If I can find the other pics I will post them.
Messed with a stainless 20in barrel rossi 92 in .45Lc today at a LGS. Wow that is a pretty neat very lightweight package. If they had the 16 inch version in .45 and it had the same level of craftsmanship as the 20 it would already be in my safe. Definitely a much nicer level of finish amd metal work than I'm used to seeing from rossi.
Added a Hill People Gear stock cuff/side saddle. Ranger Green in .30 cal. Fits my Marlin 1894 .44 Mag
Gun show was a good one. Picked up a marlin 336 in 35 Remington. Serial number indicates a manufacturer date of 1953.
