RAT-SAR was called out at 4:30 this morning to assist with a search in the Sipsey Wilderness for a family of four. It was a great day working with the Lawrence County Sheriff's Office Search and Rescue team, as well as other teams from across Alabama and Tennessee. The family (2 adults and 2 small children) was found in good condition and assisted out of the wilderness area by SAR personnel.

Were they lost, did they call for help or did someone else call because they didn't make it home?

Family called for help since they were overdue. Yes, they were lost. Very easy to do in the area they were in.

Been lost once in the bush....I was maybe 12 at the time.....my Great Uncle's "directions" of where I was to walk to to be collected were.....well.... "scant".... it was a pretty bloody ordinary feeling let me tell you. I was only geographically confused for a few hours and was very happy when I managed to unloose myself and walk down to where he was waiting with the horses....he was asleep under a tree and said he would have raised a concern if I had not shown up by the NEXT day..... :D
