When you could just take an hour out of your quail or grouse hunting with your beloved English Springer Spaniel and go stop by to vote, and the whole world doesn't freak out about your side by side? I know the good old days weren't always good and there is a hindsight bias when we look at things, but if I could step into this photograph and live in those times, I'd take my chances. Y'all can have your iPads and your Miley Cyrus.
That is a neat picture. Makes me long for understanding & times I am too young to have known and will most likely never see.
while i did not grow up in the 40's 50's or 60's, not in rural America.....I think that was the best time to be American. That pic says it all
I grew up in small town America in the 60's and 70's. Not perfect, but a whole lot better than now. I would take Nixon over Obama or either Clinton, every day of the century. Next door neighbor was a conservation officer. With my folks permission, he purchased an appropriate shotgun for me (I paid) when I was 14. Today they might call it a straw purchase, but I don't know how it could have been more on the up and up.
Back in those days I thought the perfect age was 16, old enough to work and drive, but not old enough for real responsibility, but the best part was that you didn't have to have a fishing license.
