Well there is that. I think the ESEE-3 S35V recently won the top award for best peanut butter sandwich maker.
Hand drill practice tonight. First go was a flop, lots of dust and smoke, no ember. Notch was probably carved too large and didn’t hold enough heat to get me there. Used the dust generated by the first go and got this ember within 3 downward passes.
Bow drill ember tonight (sore hands let me down on hand drill.) Bow drill worked fine though. Saguaro rib spindle on cottonwood branch hearth. Blew this one all the way to flame. (palo verdy leaf tinder bundle)
James Gibson sent me over a copper ember catch he made....so I had to try it out. (Had to grab the knife he made me outa the knife drawer too )
Yesterday’s ember. Seep willow on sotol. I used the spindle while it was still pretty green, but forced the working end to dry out on the first hole. Second easily made the ember.
