Thanks. It's all by hand. I start with 320 grit and I used to go to 3000 until I got 5000 and 7000 this last time
Thanks for the replies! Have you kept any that you’ve polished that way as users and if so how’s up keeping it to avoid rusting? I’ll have to try that, I’ve use yellow mustard a good bit in the past just never with heat.
No problem and no. But polishing them kind of helps with rust. I lived in sw Missouri and it was pretty humid there and I really never had an issue. A friend who's bought a few of mine lives on the coast and I don't think his have rusted yet. I can guarantee they won't, just going off what I know. I'm sure you could use a 3000 or 5000 grit if you catch it in time, if it does happen to. The knife was still a little warm from putting a 90 degree on it also, so I'm not sure if that factored in. I'll be getting another one soon to experiment and see if I can get the same outcome. I also did the mustard twice.
Thanks. Makes sense in that the higher the polish the slicker the surface is and rust would have trouble sticking.
Polished 1095, or at least finished on 2000 grit sandpaper, is quite rust resistant, given that the knife is used often. I have had rust issues on stainless with poor finish or deep grinding marks, more often than on polished carbon with a patina.
I just blew 2 or 3 hours going through this and another thread here, handing out likes to a lot of images I missed the first time around, and I missed a boatload! Fours Rock!
My old 4 that started it all back in the old forum days. Used it in several of the skills contests back in the day. Underwent a facelift a few years ago but many of the features are available on production models now! Great blade!
