Yeah in MA no TP or cleaning supplies anywhere and people are starting to go nuts. I went to bjs for lettus and avocados everything is better in the local stores. Bjs should have been limiting people to TP it was insane I witnessed a dude sprinting in the parking lot with 8 bundles of TP.
I buy all my ammo online and doesn’t seem to be any flow problem there. I’ll do my normal monthly buying of bulk ammo.

    Also, I heard this yesterday.

WalMart is going to change many locations that are 24 hours to only being open 6am to 11pm.

This will allow them to restock the shelves and also clean the store as much as possible.

Stop and Shop reduced hours too. @Frigin ammo prices have gone up and stores have begun limiting quantities.

This happened last night by us. Walmart and several other grocery stores have seen so many people panic buying they are having problems keeping items on the shelves. They are closing overnight (even though they have always been open 24 hours) so that employees have a chance to restock overnight. I bet people were camped outside this morning to be first in line...

It helps fight the psychological aspect.

When you see only a handful of an item there are normally a hundred of, you are more likely to buy them all even though you would normally buy only one.

The more the shelves look full, they more they will stay full.

It is a just in time model, stores don’t have an enormous back stock like some people think.

This is one of those times, when the idea of and ability to bake your own bread makes a whole lot of sense.

We made some yesterday, but it was from a pre mixed package.

Wife and I agree we need to start practicing making it from scratch.

I am waiting for the dough to rise now. I am a little concerned about my yeast.

I went to the local Piggly Wiggly tonight. The store looked almost normal. The meat cooler was looking a little thin, and almost all of the white bread was gone. Just a couple loaves of the expensive stuff and a loaf of texas toast in the back, whole wheat was almost gone too. The tp isle wasn't bare but is running low. They had a pile of potatoes for $1.69 a bag, that was hard to pass up but I am sitting here looking a 2 1/2 bags and a half bag of red potatoes. I love taters, I am going to try growing some this year. I've got one vine going now and need to get some more seeds planted before it gets too late.

The county I live in which is about 2.3 million people surrounding and including pittsburgh just shut down all non-essential businesses to include:
Specific locations that would fall under the recommendation include:

    • child care centers
    • senior centers
    • community and recreation centers
    • gyms – including yoga, spin, barre and other similar facilities
    • hair salons, nail salons and spas
    • casinos
    • bars
    • concert venues
    • theaters
    • sporting event facilities
    • golf clubs
    • social clubs
    • nonessential retail facilities including shopping malls (except for pharmacy or other health care facilities located therein)

Wow. Thanks for the heads up @jafo. Thus will probably expand to other areas in the US shortly... Just heard a county in WI about an hour north of us just shut down public buses.

Its weird that they closed up the pittsburgh area before philly. I think its because our county controller asked people to close voluntarily and the governor made it mandatory on their behalf. We only have 4 confirmed cases in the city and only 1 was hospitalized.

Well it finally rose, got it baking now. I don't know what I did to make it take so long, I used instant yeast. I don't think my water was too hot, maybe I shouldn't have added the salt to the water before the flour. Or the yeast may just be getting old, the expiration date is Sept. 2020. Oh well, at least it did rise.

We put the yeast on one side of a plastic bowl, salt on the other. Then add warm/almost hot water. Stir it together and then add the flour. Rise time is usually 2 hours.

This is a wet dough method as mentioned in the book noted above. Takes about 3 minutes to prepare and makes 4 decent size loaves. Or a bunch of rolls, or other items.

Unfortunately measures have had to escalate here in IL. We have a state-wide closure of all K-12 schools, as well as bars and restaurants for at least the next 2 weeks. The closings have spurred another round of panic buying. I'm in the southwest burbs of chicago, and the stores were getting cleaned out yesterday after the governer announced the eating establishment closings. Shortages were mainly paper goods, meat, cleaning supplies, and canned veggies. 20200315_151837.jpg 20200315_151035.jpg

But on a positive note, zip lock bags and Tupperware are good to go.
