I’ve had a couple of his strops over the years. Today I unearthed my very first Flexxx Strop.

Can someone please school me on strips and hey even sharpening in general. Or direct me to thread if already talked about? I would like to know more about strops.
I have always just pulled out a stone on the table spit on it and went in a circular motion. That how my grandpa told me to do it when I was little and it has always worked for me.

there ain’t nothing wrong with your method. It works just fine, especially with 1095 and 440c. With that said, using a strop on a knife with an already good, sharp edge, can make it hair popping sharp. It really depends on what you like. I mostly use a strop on my folders and small fixed knives like the candiru. It makes them ridiculously sharp and give them a mirror like shine. For most of my field knives, I prefer a little bit of a toothy edge, so I use DMT sharpening stones. There’s plenty of videos out there if you want to learn how to strop.

@AK1013 okay thank you yes I have a few beyond expensive folders that I don’t even sharpen because I know that stone isn’t for them. I carry them sometimes but they see very little use at all I mainly like playing with them. I’ll have to look at the strop for them.

Here’s a good video of James Gibson showing some of that.
