Seriously? That's a damn scam if there ever was one. Here you just need someone to write you a tag for it so you can prove it wasn't poached.

Last time my dad and I drew tags for sage hen, we were both younger and I was quite a bit skinnier. I believe you cannot hunt them anymore and they are listed as endangered. At any rate, we scouted a bit before hunting, we saw sign but no sage hen. We figured it was our best shot, they are pretty hard to find.

Opening morning, we parked just as the sun was coming up. Let the dogs out, were running my Brittany and my Dads German Wire Hair, gave em a bit to get the piss and vinegar out and then set off. Again, we saw sign (tracks), no sage hen and the dogs weren’t remotely birdy. One hill, the next, another..no birds. At that point the shotguns were slung and we were arrowhead hunting.

It wasn’t much longer that we started working back to the truck thinking we just got skunked, already pushing towards noon. After getting back to the truck, which was parked next to an old levee that had a splash of water in it, we set off. I think we drove less than 10 feet and I see this head pop up. “Stop the truck!!!”

We both jumped out loaded the guns up and we both got our limit of sage hen (2 for each Hunter) in under a minute. There was a big hole with water in it. The hole lot was in there having a party. We didn’t bother to let the dogs out, as we were collecting our birds. We hear this crash/bang, a game warden was watching us the whole time. He beat the piss out of his truck coming down that hill. He verified our tags and went on his way.

One more trip planned to Basswood lake in the Boundary Waters this year! This was from today. Fishing was a little slow, windy overcast in mid 60's , trees starting to change. Don't have the greatest of cameras, but here are some of our day trip, my friend is holding the fish, and me on the camera.

I got one fish all day long today, Miss Pigggy was just over the 10 pound mark, 30 inches, my buddy got one small Eye, and some nice 5 pound class smallies.

All fish released unharmed, the big Wally had some sores on its side, but she should continue to grow, and put on some weight for the next lucky person to enjoy .

I absolutely love tying flies, have a few thousand sitting around I've tied over the years! However the few times I've tried fly fishing and actually using them I've failed miserably, not so much the ties, but rather my rodding technique, or lack of LOL! I'd be happy with that fellow, sadly my lobbing method of fly casting has been a bit of a deterrant!
