Just look at it as a stealthy, aggressive deer. There's a lot of good meat in that thing. I had cougar BBQ tacos last year and they were great. Plus it's more of a challenge than just going out to the field and grabbing a cow to butcher.

"Terrorizes" paddlers. Gotta love media hyperbole.

Yup. She's very lucky she walked away and wasn't trampled or gored. Bison aren't aggressive animals, unless you get all up in their personal space and do stupid ****. Kinda like me. :D

Somehow, Dowler managed to get a pocket knife his father had given him two weeks ago from his right pocket and plunged the two-inch blade into the bear’s neck.

    The animal let go.

Dowler crawled back to his bike. He used the same knife to cut off a sleeve to make a tourniquet for his leg. He managed to get on the bike and pedal to the nearest logging camp.<<<7 KM's away (4.35 MILES)

“I was thinking I wasn’t going to make it,” Dowler said.

At the camp, five loggers performed crucial first aid on Dowler. He was taken by air ambulance to Vancouver General Hospital, where he was treated for puncture wounds and deep cuts, and required surgery for damage to his femoral artery.

I'm heading to VGH Acute Care Friday eve to see Dowler!

    https://www.campbellrivermirror.com/news/quadra-island-man-uses-knife-to-fight-off-grizzly-attack/

i'm amazed at the wounds Dowler managed to inflict, under extreme medical duress, on the grizzly's neck, with just a 2" blade.....

the CO's that tracked the grizzly:

    "
In the days following the attack, the bear was then tracked by four conservation officers.

But hours into their search, the officers found they were the ones being stalked, with the grizzly eventually coming within metres of them.

“It was definitely a little threatening,” said Sgt. Dean Miller of the BC Conservation Officer Service. “It actually probably stalked us for about half an hour while we were thinking we were stalking it – it was just happenstance that one of the officers actually picked up on the bear’s odour from behind us and alerted the second officer who then destroyed the bear.”

We have black bears, cougars, ‘gators, and all kinds of snakes here in North FL. In some 60+ years of bumming around the woods and swamps, I have never had a real problem. I do carry a Glock M40 10MM with heavy loads. You never know.

Sorry I’m new here and my first post. I’m not used to this. There is a web site that gives the basic rules of The Selouse Scouts. There rule is basically get out of the way. If you are in a place where Hipos and Elephants are. Carry a cannon. 7.62 or any normal hunting rifle won’t exactly bounce off. But it will make the animal really mad. Most people use a double barrel large caliber rifle. I use a .470NE Rising Bite. I would suggest a .416. But Rigby had not mad a rimmed .416 when I got my rifle. We use the double rifle for the second really fast shot. And when you get used to it. They load really fast. But they cost a lot of coin.
A pistol? Ya will not work against Africa animals. No one I know carry’s one

    "I use a .470NE Rising Bite."

    Now that's a nice rifle!

I'd like to buy a cartridge of that if you would sell me one. I'm in Ontario.

I am not a firearm dealer. There is a place in Calgary Alberta that does sell a rifle like mine. But honestly I would get a different brand than mine.
I mainly hunt in Zimbabwe. I have many friends there so I do not have to pay the insain prices other people do
