Alright guys, the next table of destruction series pits the jungleass against all comers!

Which will entail the Ontario Sp53, the Mineral Mountain Hatchet Works Bullnoser, and a bit of a wild card, the DoubleStar Blades Fury Crashette.

I am super stoked on this series, but sadly after this series its time to say goodbye to my Jungleass, which i have actually been borrowing this whole time... for years lol

This is going to be fun! And no matter the results, the Jungleass will remain the standard by which all other choppers are measured!

I say the Mineral Mountain will be the toughest of them all.

Im not really testing toughness, but chopping performance, but thats wild to hear you say it! I wouldnt have guessed you would be familiar with mmhw, but i guess you have been in this game awhile eh?

I'm not familiar with them. I was just looking at the build of it. If you're testing cutting efficiency then the Junglas has a chance :)

I had a SP53 - extremely strong, but heavy as an anchor and was not really good at anything but chopping/splitting wood, while still being inferior to a hatchet of the same weight, so I sold it.

Believe it or not, the Jungleass is actually heavier than the sp53, but the stick tang on the sp53 gives it a more forward balance making it feel heavy.
    Sorry for being pedantic lol

Is it the micarta slabs that add the weight you think?

It is completely possible, but the balance of the Junglas makes it much more agile in the hand.

Micarta is heavier than some materials, but not bad, and its lighter than G10.

Kraton on the other hand i believe is lighter than micarta, but more importantly, the sp53 has a stick tang, while the junglas has a solid full tang, in a time when most comparable knives have skeletonized full tangs.

I will add that i always see the Junglas' weight listed incorrectly, i believe at 24oz. In a world dominated by people comparing items on paper i believe this is detrimental, as the few junglas'i have weighed have been under 22, and people will literally choose on item over another based in being a few oz lighter.

Looks like the handle would lay waste to your hand in heavy chopping

The hook on the end of the 53 is a pinky killer

The top two in the photo are going to hurt in heavy chopping. Never understood that handle design on big knives.

I hope you get your own Junglas! The second one down is wild looking.
    It’s like the hunger games!

May the odds be ever in your favor

I was kinda hoping to do this showdown tomorrow, but felling a seasoned red oak with the wrong axe has riggidy wrecked my hands... so it will probably be postponed till Tues!

Hey guys- the showdown has happened!

So, i compared the Jungleass to the Sp53, the MMHW Bullnoser, and the DoubleStar Blades Fury- and i must say i was a little surprised at the results.

The Junglas was a lightweight in the comparison, heavier only than the Sp53, but the Sp53's weight distribution is much more chop oriented. Although the Junglas was the weakest chopper in THIS particular test, it was also the most comfortable, and the most consistent.

While every other knife on the table felt like a chopping machine, the Junglas feels like a knife that just so happens to be able to chop quite well- and i would say that has likely always been what has made it so popular!
