I have so much fishing stuff its ridiculous, the only thing I don't have is a fly fishing rod, but almost picked up a
few while I was working at Cabelas/BPS.

I used to fly fish when I was younger but started to target species with casting and spinning gear so I hope I don't
go off topic here but here is my favorite spinning rod :)

Are you mostly doing trout stuff still? or bass fishing now? I think I recall you getting a boat.

Ever since the jungle training forum, I have respected your gear choices- the shimanos are tought to beat. That said- you definitely need to pick up fly fishing again. Get some good instruction, and honestly- as much as you like gear pick up an NRX (they are on closeout right now) and a lamson reel or something. You'll likely love it- and if not the resell is pretty decent. Fly fishing is a whole new level of Gear-heads.

I target both, usually trout during winter (ice fishing) early spring and late fall, the rest the time I go after bass, muskie
    wiper and walleye on boat.

I have been eyeing the NRX fly rods for a long time now, I love my NRX spinning and casting rods...will see :)

When I was working at Cabelas, I looked at all the fly rods daily, the Fenwick Aetos stuck out and felt better then
some of $800+ rods, I was amazed by the balance and feel and I'm not much of a Fenwick fan.

Finally had a chance to get out and try tenkara and traditional fly fishing. Both are awesome. I will say managing that 14 foot line on the tenkara in the wind was a challenge for small streams. Caught trout on both so they work.

Strig, learning to roll cast will be a life saver for you on windy days. It's what saved me from chucking my fly rod into the creek with the fish I could see but not reach up wind.

If in moving water, let the current help load your rod just before making the cast. As with a lot of things, it’s all about timing.

If ive got this right i need three sets of leaders and associated tippet to cover myself for most fishing situations. 2x, 4x and 6x. That seems right?

Where are you fishing and what kind of fish are you targeting? We don't have much in the way of trout in my neck of the woods, so at most I'll change the length of my tippet and stick to the same leader sizes for local fishing.

Trout mostly but as i read it the size of the fly dictates the size of the tippet and leader. We hope to fish all sorts of sizes of flies. Been using small small nymphs with 6x tippet on a 5x leader.

That's exactly right. I am pretty sure Orvis has some good charts to match fly size to leader and tippet size. I've seen guys go out with piles of spools on a keeper so they can adjust right there.

I'm more of a lazy bass fisherman, so I keep it at 2x or 3x 99% of the time.

When I started, I had at least 4-6 different size spools of tippet on me so I could adjust as needed while on the water. That changed over time to two spools of the same size so I wouldn’t run out on the water. I narrowed it down to the thinnest I could successfully tie. I’ve been running that way for years for any size fly or fish.

What did you narrow it down to if i may ask? What range in the size of flies are you using?
