Another cast iron afflicted reprehensible. It's a good thing we all live so far apart...all together we might be considered a public health hazard! :D

    “Mozzies, bears and waterfalls”

Woke up early and loaded up my truck with the essentials. Back to a full load out - no weight restrictions.

Drove north and found a river system that I’ve always wanted to explore. I put on my HPG chest rig and my drop leg sheath/BUSSE NMSFNO combo and started to look around.

This place is crazy in the spring time. Gravel bars everywhere just begging for a cooler full of ice cold beer to be crushed while fishing off of them.

I love this type of country.

    Water was CLEAR and deep.

    B0D095D6-16BC-4DE6-ACA4-6E017E2359B8.jpeg

Loads of trees ripped out of the grind by torrential spring run off.

    D5447D01-A545-4910-BF7C-D3620C38605E.jpeg

Further down river, everything calms down nicely. Lots of small trout in these waters.

    DB381EA1-DAB1-409A-864F-EF9A14D2709D.jpeg

I hears something in the trees probably 50 yards from me. @Bushman5 and I move through the forest the same way...move, stop, listen, look, repeat.

    This proved useful yet again.

    E48F8A8C-4230-41A3-8A15-7F6C9BE8B588.jpeg

After making sure the bear moved away from the area, I cautiously continued to explore.

    21216E29-6039-4B1E-BC60-B6EB959478F6.jpeg

    F28C651C-CCE3-4431-A34B-58F0EC8CECCE.jpeg

There were more signs of active bears in this area. Stumps freshly ripped open, more tracks. Erie silence.

    Time to go.

    B4B164E2-054C-4305-90BF-E7AA377D5955.jpeg

I moved out of that area and got back to the truck. Continued north for another hour before heading 45 km west into the heart of the interior.

I stopped at a nice area to do some fly fishing. It is late in season for rainbows and the northern pike minnow is running right now. Garbage for eating and they eat trout fry like crazy.

I loaded up the ruger with some grizzly vitamins and got all set to hike down river.

    6276EDBA-E70B-4FFE-83D6-A9F0812ADD7C.jpeg

I take fishing to a whole other level. Am I crazy, yes, am I prepared? Yes, is this overkill? Depends on who you ask. Will you read about me getting lost, Eaten by wild animals, starving to death, dying of dehydration or worse? NO WAY.

Chest rig, gun, halftrack loaded for bear, net, water, knives, boots, waders.

    BRING IT.

    1BC5D77B-01F5-4EE0-8910-19B559C8D3DA.jpeg

    More to come.

Beautiful river. I’m going to hike to this spot more often.

Caught 6 fish on my fly rod. All NPM. No bows!

This is some incredible country. I love the interior. The PNW is in a class of its own though. Very different climates.

    199D8391-7DDB-403D-B6AA-AC2D0BBE984C.jpeg

The bush here is incredibly thick this time of year. In some areas it is impassable without a machete.

    6072B161-E3E6-442F-A847-FF965D2AE749.jpeg

Speaking of knives. The battle mistress in all its glory. .25” thick, 10” blade. Epic knife. I’ve never owned another knife of this size that I’ve liked more than this one, except for one exception. That exception is a variant of this knife with a full flat grind and 5/16’s thick.

    Nice little rainbow!

    F5E2B9CB-C528-48FB-996A-A0F5E50AC9A5.jpeg

I fished there for maybe an hour or so. Weather started to move in, so I started to hike back out toward the lake that this river pours out of so I could build a fire and have some chow.

Once I got to the spot where I wanted to have my epic cook up, I set up a line to catch fish in the lake and started slaughtering dead balsams for firewood with the NMSFNO

    Hmmm.

What’s this? Very utilitarian knife. I like it, but I’m not sold on it yet. Struggling to see the point of this knife when you could carry an IZULA or an IZULA 2.

It’s like an expensive steak knife with a sharpened spine...

As I’m cooking my steak, I hear something. It’s my fishing rod! It fell over. I ran over and discovered that a fish had taken the bait and gotten tangled in a fallen log just off shore.

I put my waders on, and went into the lake.

    I got the fish untangled.

Steak is nice, but fresh trout is better...

I used the ESEE steak knife to clean the fish.

During this whole time I was being eaten alive by black flies, dropped my phone in the mud and was swearing like a sailor.

Back at camp, the rice was done. I was famished. Put on a lot of miles today.

    6E18D40A-672C-4591-B082-5AD4AD559CFF.jpeg

I skewered the trout and tied it on to a branch with a Saskatoon branch.

    AFE37586-AFF2-499E-B64B-AAA429743779.jpeg

This is bushcraft. Simple and effective.

Bushcraft was never a sport, a fad, or a hobby. It was in all honestly, wilderness living. It was derived from things people who lived in the forest did to get by and manage their lives and fulfill their needs.

We see a lot of bullsh8t on social media and forums that claim “bushcraft is made up of lay flat pictures of unused gear, kuska cups, “Bush raft camps” and folks showing their claim to fame by showing their elaborate “bushcraft skills”

What’s worse is a a lot of companies endorse such jokes because it sells gear.

That is all crap. Lies. Not practical.

“Bushcraft is simple, because it works”

Mors kochanski is the god of wilderness living, and what he does isn’t pretty. It’s simple, and it works. Just like a mora knife. Not fancy. Brutally simple, and it works.

I’m amazed at the colour of those trout. Gotta be wild and not stocked.

The bows down here , the meat is grey and they taste like how foul stagnant mud smells.......hence why I hate trout

Great pics 7! Not much can top fresh caught done over fire. Mmm mmm good! I think we are doomed to be consumed by insects though...they'll just find our bones out by the river after the mozzies and biting flies have left nothing but skeletal remains. :D

    LOL!
    http://www.bcrobyn.com/2012/12/how-big-is-british-columbia/

BC covers 95% of the western US seaboard and a 1/4 of the west USA.

I’ve explored here all my life and have literally covered only .05% of of BC

It's actually around 150,000 square kilometers (57,915 square miles) bigger than Texas, with roughly 1/6th the population. :)

Massively different terrain all over BC. From super dense, sopping wet rainforest where I live, to the bitter cold North, and everything in between.

The small, densely packed evergreens and (comparatively) flatter terrain in @Se7eN's posts are characteristic of central BC.
