Been working on building this rifle into my ideal all purpose "truck/home defense/do all rifle" for about a year and a half as I have money or get deals on parts and accessories. Started out as a blem PSA stainless freedom upper, now it has a FN chf barrel and toolcraft NiB bcg (both purchased at well below half off, I don't think they are huge performance upgrades but both have reputations as being very durable and that was one of my goals with this rifle. Added the vortex spitfire 1x, with a magpul back up sight. The surefire light I had and threw on until I get a dedicated weapon light. And just this past week finished upgrading to all magpul furniture and got the sling with QD cups mounted. Nothing special but I have literally had every single piece of this rifle apart and learned a ton about AR building in the process so that has been alot of fun. It also shoots awesome so that's a major plus! Now Im planning another build, this time I want a rifle length long range set up, this one might get a little pricey lol!
Absolutely nothing. It's a great round and a hard hitter. But I'm looking for more distance with less recoil. Eventually.
I'm not discounting the abilities of the .308 at all. I've only ever shot .308 from the prone and had no issues with it. However, go shoot from a barricade where you're not able to completely mitigate the recoil or you're shooting past 800yds with lots of wind. There are other cartridges that are better suited for those situations. As a practical/tactical round, .308 is pretty awesome. As a long range wind beater while also needing to spot your own impacts, there are better options.
