I forgot to post these pics of a lesser siren I ran across at work this past summer.

That's so cool. I see a ton of newts and salamanders while out hunting and woods bumming. Finding a hellbender is on my bucket list of critters.

This was the first full adult siren I’ve caught. I’ve seen a few larvae stage. Gotta get into something nasty wetlands for these.

A hellbender would be awesome! I see newts, salamanders and amphiumas fairy often.

I fixed the link. Should be working now.

Yup, that's the one. Clueless idiot had no idea how close they came to death.

Cool article. Although I personally guarantee that the rat snake was over 3'. Nice thick bodied critter. I'm still looking for my first copperhead in ohio. Surprisingly difficult to find around here.

Yes they are, that's why I relocated it before the dogs got it. They're hell on snakes.

To the best of my knowledge they're the most venomous snake in the US. They rarely bite people. They're rear fanged and generally not very defensive.

Edit, appears the Mojave rattlesnake is the most venomous.

Yes but very docile, I picked it up to move it to a safer location

Found this eastern river cooter at our church’s playground with my youngest. He had crawled inside the fence through the entrance and was stuck in the sun. I moved him outside into some shade, took pics, then placed him in the edge of a nearby creek.

Patchy tried to feed him a pine cone. After about 30 minutes of not being pestered by a toddler (at least she’s learning about nature), he burrowed into the mud, then swam off a bit later.

Sadly, he was not related to the mechanic from “Dukes of Hazzard” and couldn’t get me an autograph. Bummer.

This is terrible. Happened a couple towns over from us.

Bear in mind I know very little about how venom effects the body or how fast, but they had to do mouth to mouth on the scene. (Granted no time was given between actual bite and mouth to mouth.) @DYSPHORIC JOY what are your thoughts on it? Weak heart maybe?

I’d like to learn more about venomous snakes in our area since we seem to have plenty on our new property.

Found two black rat snakes in our barn. Told them thanks for all the work they do and walked out to let them do their snakey thing.
