There’s a group of us headed to Colorado in July. We we’re looking for some good backcountry overnights, off trail or on. We’re not interested in the touristy thing.

We’ll be flying into Denver, renting an SUV, and heading into Grand Junction to see the HPG shop. Anything between the two we need to see?

From there we’ll head south to Rio Grand National Park. What can we hit here?

We’re then going to Pagosa Springs to spend the night.

From there we’ve got two days to kill before heading back to Denver.

Any must sees or hidden jewels we need to add to the agenda?

That guys at HPG can put you on some good stuff.... you have the Uncompahgre National Forest, the San Juans, numerous 14ers in that area....Ouray, Sliverton, Telluride, HUNDREDS of miles of dirt roads and ghost towns....

That area is a target rich environment for sure.... Between the HPG guys and the @Jeff Randall I'm sure you can find a few places to hang out!

It’s funnier than you think, we rafted that river last year for Mancation. The Chatooga. Seriously. Our experience was exciting but not as exciting as Burts.

.....butt was it as exciting as Ned Beatty's ?????? :D

I remember in the 90s Jeff Foxworthy doing some jokes about the 96 Olympic rowing events being held there.... :)

I was in the wilds of Aus a week ago and seasoned a couple of steaks with your seasoning....so you have been on an adventure here in spirit at least ;)

II’ll be coming to see you soon so I need details on CO and we can discuss how hard or easy ole Ned had it in person. (I’d argue that it depends on your orientation)

While your in Grand Junction you might visit Grand Mesa and on the way back go up the Mount Evans road.Lots to see in Colorado if you have the time.
