    Hello there,

In this thread I plan to post my experiences during a hunting season in Germany. The hunting-year here starts with April 1st and goes on for a full year. In this year I will tell you about the area I hunt in, the gear I use and the game, which is mostly roedeer and wildhogs. There will be several driven hunts as well.
The first highlight will be 1st of May. From this day on the roebuck season starts. I´m looking forward to it and I will start early in the morning to get to one of my four deerstands.
In the next few days I will getting my gear ready and will keep you updated.

I hope you enjoy the this threat!

I'll start with telling you more about the most important tool I use, which is my rifle. It is a Sako 85S Grizzly with a threaded muzzle instead of the iron sights. The scope is a Schmidt&Bender Zenith 3-12x50 with a illuminated FD7 reticle It is chambered in .308 Winchester. The silencer is a Hausken JD184XTRM. I zeroed the rifle last Friday with Hornady Superperformance GMX 150gr. If you have any questions feel free to ask.

Let's go on with more gear.
Here is a list of gear I carry either in my HPG Tarahumara or on my belt:
    - small IFAK
    - utility pouch with spare knife, spare flashlight, batteries, marking tape etc.
    - branch shears
    - rope/harness for pulling heavy game out of the woods
    - fixed blade (Fallkniven F1 in the picture)
    - Benchmade Grizzly Creek
    - Walther PPQ45
    - Ammo
Not shown in the picture is a canteen with water, a thermo with coffee, some snacks and depending on the weather a wool blanket or a sleeping back.
Usually I will go on a deerstand for several hours. My Jeep is parked just a few hundred meters away.

    LOL who knows?
By now it is not planned. Perhaps I get the opportunity for dove hunting at the end of the year.

Excellent !! Sako are still my favourite brand of rifle, I did however prefer the A series that ran from the early to late 80s. I still have a pair of AIIs !!

I head off chasing Fallow this Friday, I do not believe it will be a good hunt as they have aerial shot nearly 5000 deer and 2000 pigs out of the valley I hunt over the past couple of months and we are still in a century worst drought. But there have now been some rains up there and anytime out of the city is good !!

When I am killing time near the fire next week I will itemise my pack and contents. Every now and then I still find some small item in there I had forgotten...LOL

Here are a few impressions of the last two years...
The rifle in the last two pictures is an older Steyr Mannlicher chambered in .30-06

Very cool! I lived in Spangdahlem (US Flugplatz) about 20 minutes from Trier from 95-99. I had the absolute time of my life!! I had the chance to get into hunting there, but I never did, something I regret very much. I may have been enjoying the sights and the beir too much... I’m really digging on your pictures, keep em coming.

Great! My father was born in this area. We visited Trier several times and went on a lot outdoor trips there.
