I have a long standing grudge against AR pistols, perhaps unfairly.

When I was a kid (not terribly long ago), someone handed me one to shoot. For a reason that I can only speculate on, it didn't have a front sight. I tried to compensate by holding it close to my face, and aiming along the top like a shotgun.

I was raised to believe PPE of any sort was black magic and not to be fooled with. That gun taught me that advice was in the same category as manure and dung. I took one or two shots, and my ears rang for the next two hours. Good times... Good times.

Ruger American Ranch Rifle in 7.62x39mm is a compact bolt-action firearm perfect for inside your truck. It uses the same magazines that Ruger makes for their Mini-30 semi-auto rifle.

The Mini-30 is perfect for around your homestead, and the Ranch Rifle for your truck. The 7.62x39mm is fairly cheap ammo, easy to find, and has similar ballistics to the .30-30 round.

Toss up between my 454 and Chancla.

I keep a wooden sword behind my bed for good measure.

I know a guy that has an affinity for a Chinese Mak90 with a Zhukov stock and US Palm grip....makes a helluva truck gun and don't let anyone ever tell you that AKs are not accurate....

If you ever want to shoot one I can put you in touch with this guy....

That's half the reason it's called a "truck gun".... ;)

Exactly, which gives REH a reason to buy a second one for home defense:p

I scored a CMMG Guard Pistol that takes .45 acp Glock mags.
8" barrel, operates like an AR.
I put a SBa3 brace on it and laser/light combo, looks like an SBR.
I absolutely love it. I traded in for it, it's not cheap. But if you see one check it out.

If I’m rolling around town, HK VP9 with a Texan leather sap (dental assistant) between center console and my seat. Out in the sticks, Smith 686+ or Super Redhawk on the hip or pack.

I do too, but I am not sure if I would go the lite route again. The super thin barrel kind of concerns me for longevity, but it is a sweet pistol. About the only other .22 pistol that interests me besides more 22/45's is the Smith and Wesson M&P .22.

The first pistol I ever bought is a Walther P22, I have always liked it, but some have had problems like slides cracking and stuff. They say the Ruger SR22 as a very similar pistol, but better so that would make a good farm gun too. I am pretty sure they also make the polymer LCR in .22, I think that would also be a good choice.

+1 on the .22 pistol. My grampa farmed 160 acres that was about half wooded. He was out on the property every day and all day. He always had a Stevens break-open single shot in his overall pockets for the occasional grouse or bunny.

I'm a nut for .22 handguns and have many. My fave for woods walking is a 6.5" Ruger Single Six convertible with the WMR cylinder in. It is a little heavy though, so I picked up an LCRx 3" .22 LR that I can throw in a pocket when I'm outside working fence or whatever. It's light and accurate in single action mode. I don't mind the heavy double action pull.

I also have the S&W M&P .22 Compact with a can and a green Crimson Trace on it. Its a handy combo for looking into what the dog is barking at after dark.

If you're looking at a 357 lever, I can vouch for the Henry Big Boy Steel. Mine has a set of Skinner sights. It's pretty nimble and accurate.

I have a Ruger 77/357 that gets used a fair bit on my 5 acres. Deer, opossum, raccoon and chipmunk have all been taken. Light and handy.

I’m in rattlesnake country. So a 12g semiautomatic is the walk around gun.
For the truck a sub-2000 with glock sticks. Which share mags with the get out gun.
For HD an AR pistol in 300blk ,when I feel the PSA upper is %100. Until then the 11.5” 5.56. Maybe soon the 300blk gets rebarrelled into a 12.5” 6.5 Grendel if I never get the reliability I desire.
