Am I missing something? That's the question I'm gonna ask before I begin modifying the molle back. It just seems that the elastic pommel cover is not large enough for the Izula II. Am I correct, or am I missing something? I'd like to carry the knife inverted, maybe, but without the elastic pommel cover, retention isn't what I want it be. Any ideas on modification? Solutions? Thanks, y'all!
Honestly, Ive carried my izula inverted with just the sheath and have had no issues. Not sure what going on with the elastic. Looks like it could be pulled more over the top but maybe its an angle thing with the photo. A strap could be sewn to wrap around the handle if you were so inclined.
I think the elastic is being stretched to it's limit. I've no issues with modifying the molle back. I just didn't want to start modifying, only to find out I wasn't paying attention. Thanks, dude!
Yeah it does look like its stretched to where it can. I dont know what else can be done. Those elastics are great if its on something with a backing but if the backing flexes the elastic tends to slip off. Ive not lost a knife but certainly understand wanting something "jump proof".
There is a good likelihood there is someone on here that has been there done that with this molle back. Give em a chance to chime in.
The MOLLE Back was designed mainly to fit the standard Izula, even though it will work on an Izula-II the elastic will not go over the handle, obviously. Keeps your eyes open about mid-March when we will be releasing the Imlay. It has a secondary retention strap that works great on the standard Izula and will also work on the Izula-II but it's a bit tight but it will work. No worries though, we plan on making a mold for the Izula-II as well as some other unique retention ideas. Not sure when we will get those done but the standard Izula (Imlay) is completed and works like a charm. We plan on releasing March 14th.
As a former 11B1P Blue Devil, I like the idea of everything on my LBE being jumpable! I'll absolutely keep an eye open for the Izula II Imlay! If y'all get a wild hair and want to make one in foliage, I'd be supremely grateful! In the meantime, I'll start plotting on different ways to modify this molle back. I'm looking forward to the input of others as well. Thanks, y'all!
I use a ranger band to secure the handle. Cut your own or use the EPDM rubber ranger bands that 5Col sells.
I'll second what strig said. I use my izzy 2 in the stock plastic sheath both inverted and horizontal with zero issues. It does rattle a bit but both of mine are rock solid as far as holding the knife in.
I've been trusting the retention, but, to be honest, I've been somewhat concerned. It seems kinda exposed. From the prone it's not even noticeable, but I check to make sure it's still there when I get up. I've also been carrying the ESEE 6 horizontally on the back of the belt. So far so good.
I trust it. But. Remember there is no warranty against lost knives so if its not expendable then guard it.
We have the Imlay available for preorder as of this morning: https://5col.com/products/imlay-rescue-knife-and-sheath-esee-knives
