Could it be dry rot on the stitching? Mate I dont know if I could regain the faith after something like that. I had a set of the Lowa Tibets, great boot but far to stiff for me. More of a serious alpine boot. Couldnt fault the quality tho. Gives me the chills thinking about my boot breaking like that haha.
How old where the new ones you took over ? The glue in most shoes and boots will let go if they have been left in storage with no use for some time (between 1-2 years I think) goes a little bit harder so once they start flexing again they can't take it.
....... They were probably 2 yrs old Bushy... and yes it seems it was the glue that gave out, the soul is not stitched on. Tell me about chills Stewy...were had climbed about an hour out above the hut when I discovered it, my arse about dropped out. Babied them back and was just lucky the mate had a tube of superglue in his first aid kit !! I was even more surprised that the glue held up to another long 9 days of walking and climbing up and down !! Brought them home and have used another tube of glue and some windscreen sealant on the gaps. I hunted several more times this year with them (with my old pair waiting like a fiathful dog back in camp...just in case). The Tibet was my first choice but I am now leaning toward the Renegade..... https://www.lowaboots.com/mens/trekking-hunting/ranger-iii-gtx®?color=Slate ...I just have to find a place here to try some one as they are not common on this side of the ditch.
They would be my choice aswell! If you get stuck PM me your shipping address and size and I will get you a pair.
Funny enough I got home this afternoon and had a discount code for a place I use regularly and they are now stocking Lowa. Did some searching and made some calls and they have what I suspect is my size. The code will save me $105ish on the purchase ! (They are $529A and the code is for 20%)

PM2 is our and the Shaman took its place just as I predicted. It has a better blade shape and the blade doesn’t have the delicate tip.
