Drove up Thursday and checked in at the outfitters. We have used Voyageur North for many years now and they always treat us well. We met up with the rest of the group and went out to the Ely steak house. Had a bucky burger and a steer beer. Went back to the bunk house, watched a little hockey and went to bed. Got up early Friday and headed to entry point 32 on south Kawishiwi river. It is a 140 rod portage form the parking lot to the lake.

We had an odd number this trip so i got to try a solo canoe for the first time.

We aren't ever in much of a hurry so two trips per portage.

Pitched my sisters new tent, a eureka mountain pass 3xte. It has two huge vestibles and is nice size for two people.

Souris River Quetico 16 solo. As I said this was my first time in a solo canoe so my opinion there is not worth much. But I have done quite a few trips in a Quetico 17 tandem and I have a high opinion of Souris River in general. On the other hand the outfitter seems to be switching to North Star canoes, we had two on this trip and they were... sexy. So keep those in mind as well.

The grates are placed by the USFS, that and the latrine is what designates the campsites.
