Drove up Thursday and checked in at the outfitters. We have used Voyageur North for many years now and they always treat us well. We met up with the rest of the group and went out to the Ely steak house. Had a bucky burger and a steer beer. Went back to the bunk house, watched a little hockey and went to bed. Got up early Friday and headed to entry point 32 on south Kawishiwi river. It is a 140 rod portage form the parking lot to the lake. We had an odd number this trip so i got to try a solo canoe for the first time. We aren't ever in much of a hurry so two trips per portage. Some muddy spots. Good to be back at the water. Better to be back on the water. Picked a campsite. Pitched my sisters new tent, a eureka mountain pass 3xte. It has two huge vestibles and is nice size for two people. View north from camp. View east from camp. View south from camp. Time to start fishin. That was fun now lets get into this beer. Cheers! Eagle. In case you couldn't tell... No fish today, plenty of noodles and cheese sauce though. more coming...
Beer is gone... Fire. Saturday was cloudy all day raining off and on, we caught some fish though. then this big ol snapper snatched three of em right off the stringer. Whats left of the fish. Plenty of wine though. fish tacos. jiffy pop. Nice day, Sunday. More wine. tater tongs. baking pizza dough bread. Glorious. Fire baked tater with Bacon bits, Bacon, fried spam, 2 year white cheddar, parmesan, butter, fresh walleye, and fresh bread. more coming...
Nice pics and a nice trip. Food looks great. Fish tacos camping out??? Excellent fare. Thanks for posting.
@Charlie Delta What boat is that, the misses almost bought me one this weekend but we didn't know where to start looking as far as brands go, all we have ever used was mad river.
Souris River Quetico 16 solo. As I said this was my first time in a solo canoe so my opinion there is not worth much. But I have done quite a few trips in a Quetico 17 tandem and I have a high opinion of Souris River in general. On the other hand the outfitter seems to be switching to North Star canoes, we had two on this trip and they were... sexy. So keep those in mind as well.
What a cool trip and some great food. i got to do a Boundary Waters tip when I was 17 I believe with the Boy Scouts. Wish I could do it again.
