Spent the last 10 weeks in different parts of Alaska. I hiked, cooked, ate, got rained on, drank, hiked through snow, got eaten by mosquitos, saw a porcupine, countless eagles, a black bear, hiked to glaciers, crossed icy rivers, climbed mountains, climbed on top of glaciers, made friends, had every kind of Alaskan food, made camps, fires, lead group hikes, played music, and kayaked!

    Beautiful as always.

I'm starting to be convinced I'm over knifed when i go into the woods. Time to cut back to a SAK, saw and an axe and see what happens. Maybe just a SAK. Always thought provoking sir.

Great photos as always @bearthedog, you do make me think about minimal tool carry. You seem to have just what you need without the overkill.

Thanks guys. I used a SAK Camper the entire trip. I split very little when in a spruce/hemlock forest. Add the endless supply of birch and now you cut out the need to make fuzz sticks. There was balsam fur and spruce resin everywhere to catch with old man's beard. Chopping was unnecessary, but occasionally I would half saw through a piece of wood and baseball bat it until it was split. I almost bought a cheap sierra saw, but never needed it. I used a SAK Huntsman the first 3 seasons I did and eventually brought in a cheap fixed blade, but it was for a magazine review.

Awesome pics that take me back to my time spent there. Looks like you were mostly in SE AK, and then up to PWS? Did you take the ferry?

Lots of red and yellow cedar to be found on those coastal beaches as well. Even when it's been raining for days, you can usually split some open and find dry wood inside. Makes great shavings, too.

What a beautiful area, thanks for sharing. Was just looking at cabins in the Mat-su Valley, and Kenai Peninsula.
