I am a fan of that design. Looks like a good kitchen knife as well. Is the purpose of that ring for stripping bark for tinder or control?
Sorry for the slow response here--I overlooked your question. The ring on the 3.5 Pro is intended for better grip and easier sheath draw. I have also found that in a survival scenario, it does a great job opening import beers.
We now have four different Firecraft sizes and variations available in our shop: -Firecraft 3.5 Pro (orange or black) -Firecraft 4 -Firecraft 5
I don't have any personal experience with 3V, nor do I have a strong metallurgical background, so questions like these are tough. What I've been able to find on the internet suggests that 3V is a little tougher but S35VN offers better corrosion resistance. Some people also feel that S35VN offers better edge retention. Both are supposed to be more on the difficult end of the spectrum for sharpening. I haven't had any problems with S35VN on my Worksharp, so I'm not sure what to make of that. I'm just repeating what I've read on the internet here. Sorry I'm not a better resource for this.
